Setting Up the Cisco ICS 7750 System
The following are tasks that you must perform to prepare the Cisco Integrated Communications System 7750 (ICS 7750) for the Cisco Unity Voice Messaging installation:
•
Installing or Upgrading the Cisco ICS 7750
•
Registering Cisco Unity Voice Messaging
•
Setting Up the SPE as the Cisco Unity Server
•
Changing the Computer Name of the SPE
•
Adjusting Network Settings
•

Installing or Upgrading the Cisco ICS 7750
When installing a new Cisco ICS 7750 that will use Cisco Unity Voice Messaging applications, first install the Cisco ICS 7750 system, including incoming and outgoing trunks and IP phones. Test the system to ensure that the phones and call routing work before you start installing the Cisco Unity Voice Messaging components and applications.
For information about installing the Cisco ICS 7750, refer to these documents:
•
Cisco ICS 7750 Hardware Installation Guide
•
Cisco ICS 7750 Getting Started Guide
For an existing Cisco ICS 7750 system, you must upgrade the system to use SPE 310s, Cisco ICS System Manager Release 2.0.0 or later, and Cisco CallManager 3.1 or later. Test the IP phones and the call routing before you begin the Cisco Unity installation.
For information about upgrade procedures, refer to these documents:

Registering Cisco Unity Voice Messaging
The Cisco Unity Voice Messaging system key is shipped with a minimal number of feature settings. You must register on Cisco.com to activate the system key. When it is activated, the system key will contain all the settings for the purchased features.
After you register your system, you will receive, within one business day, an e-mail message with a Cisco Unity Voice Messaging activation code. The Cisco Unity Voice Messaging installation instructions explain when to use the activation code.
For instructions on how to obtain or replace a Cisco Unity Voice Messaging activation code, refer to the "Registering Cisco Unity" section in Chapter 2, "Installing a Cisco Unity System," in the Cisco Unity Installation Guide.
Setting Up the SPE as the Cisco Unity Server
The following tasks must be performed in the order listed:
•
Install the spare SPE in the chassis. Refer to Cisco ICS 7750 FRU Installation and Replacement for installation procedures.
•
Run ICSConfig to assign a static IP address to the SPE for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging, and to set the local administrator password. The same password is used for all SPEs in the Cisco ICS 7750.
•
When you run ICSConfig, set the DNS server IP address to that of the SPE for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging, if you plan to configure DNS on this SPE. Otherwise, enter the IP address of the existing DNS server.
Note
When installing Cisco Unity Voice Messaging in an existing network, you can use an existing DNS server.
•
Connect a monitor to the VGA port, and connect a keyboard and mouse to the PS/2 port, using the Y-cable.
Note
If you are using a USB keyboard and mouse, instead of a PS/2 keyboard and mouse, with the Y-cable, you must have an approved USB hub (connected to one USB port) for the mouse, keyboard, and CD-ROM drive, leaving one USB port on the SPE for the USB key (dongle).
•
Connect the CD-ROM drive to the USB port on the SPE; you will use the CD-ROM for loading software.
•
(Optional) Change the name of the SPE to make it easier to locate. See the "Changing the Computer Name of the SPE" section.
Tip
Follow current procedures to make sure that the Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 and Hot Fixes are also installed on the SPE.
Changing the Computer Name of the SPE
To locate this computer easily in the domain, you can give it a more recognizable computer name. If you plan to change the name, you must do it now. You cannot change the computer name after you install software on the SPE.
Note
It is optional to change the computer name.
Follow these steps to change the computer name of the SPE:
Step 1
Access Microsoft Windows, using the keyboard and mouse attached to the SPE.
Step 2
Log in as the local administrator. (The default username is administrator. Use the password that was set when you ran ICS Configuration.)
Step 3
On the desktop of the SPE, right-click the ICS7700 icon, and then choose Properties.
Step 4
Click the Network Identification tab.
Step 5
Choose Properties.
Step 6
In the Properties dialog box, enter the new computer name. The new computer name must be unique to this domain.
Tip
Use a short name of eight characters or less, such as CiscoVM1. If you add other Cisco Unity Voice Messaging servers, you can increase the number in the name—for example, CiscoVM2—to keep the name unique.
Step 7
Click OK.
Step 8
Click Yes to restart the SPE and to have the changes take effect.
Adjusting Network Settings
To ensure correct operation of the system, you must adjust a network setting to synchronize the time between the SPEs. See "Synchronizing the Time Between Computers" for instructions for adjusting the setting.
Synchronizing the Time Between Computers
You need to synchronize the time on the SPE running System Manager with the time on the SPE that has the domain controller. Open a Telnet session with the SPE running System Manager. Then follow these steps:
Step 1
Choose Start > Run, and enter cmd.
Step 2
Enter the following command in the command window:
telnet IP address of the SPE running System Manager 5000
Note
Be sure to enter 5000 after the IP address; 5000 is the port number for Telnet.
Step 3
Enter Y to respond to the message that cautions you about sending your password to a remote computer.
Step 4
Log in as the administrator, using the appropriate password for this SPE, if required.
Step 5
In the command window, enter this command to synchronize the systems:
c:\>net time \\IP address of the SPE running Unity /set
Note
Be sure to enter the IP address of the SPE for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging where the domain controller resides. Enter a space and forward slash (/) before set.
Step 6
Press Enter, and wait for the confirmation message as shown in Figure 3-1.
Figure 3-1 Synchronizing the Time Between the SPEs
Step 7
Enter Y to synchronize the time.
Step 8
Enter the exit command to close the Telnet session.
Note
The time on the SPE running System Manager becomes synchronized with the time on the SPE used for Cisco Unity Voice Messaging.
Installing the Windows 2000 NIMDA Patch
To protect the SPE from the NIMDA virus, install the NIMDA patch on the Service Pack disc by following the instructions in the "Installing the NIMDA Patch and Connecting the Cisco Unity Server to the Network (Component System Only)" section in Chapter 2, "Installing a Cisco Unity System," of the Cisco Unity Installation Guide.
Note
At the end of the procedure for installing the NIMDA patch, you are instructed to attach the network cable to the server. Do not perform this step for the Cisco ICS 7750.
Installing the USB Key Driver
Before you can begin installing Cisco Unity Voice Messaging software on the SPE, you must install the system key in a USB port. You need to have the CD-ROM drive connected to one of the USB ports. You also need to have both a keyboard and a mouse connected to the PS/2 port, using the Y-cable. You will need the other USB port on the SPE for the system key.
Follow the steps described in the "Installing the USB Key Driver and Attaching the USB System Key (Component System Only)" section in Chapter 2, "Installing a Cisco Unity System," in the Cisco Unity Installation Guide.
Note
You must install the USB system key driver before you insert the system key into the USB port; otherwise, the SPE might not recognize the key.
Caution
Leave the Cisco Unity system key in the USB port at all times. If the key is removed, voice messaging is not accessible. To correct this problem, you must right-click the Cisco Unity icon on the status bar and stop the Cisco Unity server. Insert the USB system key, and right-click the Cisco Unity icon to restart the server.
