Booting in ROM Monitor Mode


If your Cisco MC3810 multiservice access concentrator boots in ROM monitor mode, it will display the following prompt after it boots: rommon 1>. To exit from ROM monitor mode and return to the Cisco IOS prompt, follow these steps:


Step 1 At the ROM monitor prompt enter dir flash: to display the files within the Flash memory directory. This process might take a few minutes while Flash memory is being initialized. The Cisco IOS image to be loaded has a filename like Cisco MC3810-a2inr3v2-mz.


Note The ROM Monitor prompt contains a number that represents the sequential number of the next command to be entered. For instance, the ROM monitor prompt is first displayed as rommon 1>. After the first command is entered, the prompt is displayed as rommon 2>, and so on.


Step 2 At the ROM monitor prompt enter boot flash: filename, where filename is the name of the Cisco IOS image. For example, enter boot flash:mc3810-a2inr3v2-mz.

rommon> bootflash:mc3810-a2inr3v2-mz

While the software is being loaded, a series of messages are displayed.

Step 3 When the messages stop scrolling, press Return. The system prompt is displayed:

Note To return to the ROM monitor from any Cisco IOS command mode, press the ctrl and break keys simultaneously.
