Introduction
This document contains release information for the Cisco Voice Services Provisioning Tool (VSPT) Release 2.5(2) software. VSPT helps you create configuration files across multiple devices including the Cisco PGW 2200, and BAMS. It provides a GUI for the batch and interactive provisioning of the various features of the PGW 2200 host. Each release of VSPT supports a specific release of the PGW 2200.
VSPT can help avoid common errors that might arise if devices are provisioned independently. This package eliminates the need to enter duplicate data and enables you to deploy configurations to and export configurations from the PGW 2200. It also generates the configuration files you need to provision the PGW 2200—including the following provisioning information:

Software Release History
This section contains information for the current 2.5 releases. For information on earlier releases, please refer to a previous version's release notes.
Release 2.5(2)
Release 2.5(2) is a full release which adds to the features available in the limited release 2.5(2)T. VSPT 2.5(2) supports all new result types, sigpath, trunk group properties, and trunk group types that are supported by PGW 9.5(2). For detailed information on this support, refer to the Cisco Media Gateway Controller Software Provisioning Guide Version 9.
The following new MML components are supported in VSPT 2.5(2):

Additionally, support for the following features has been added:
•
SIP DNS—A dialog has been added to the SIP DNS parameters that will notify the user that the PGW needs restart for those modifications to take effect.
•
State Operations—The state operations for retrieving and setting the call limiting functions of PGW.
•
Meter Pulse Tariff Table—Added support to configure the Meter Pulse Tariff table in PGW.
•
BAMS—Added support to provision multiple BAMS operating modes set by the pgw-dynamic-update flag. Also, BAMS up to and including version 3.13 is supported by this release.
Release 2.5(2)T
Release 2.5(2)T supports Cisco MGC Release 9.5(2), BAMS releases 3.13, and HSI release 4.1 patch 6 software and adds new or enhanced features to support provisioning features new in Cisco PGW 2200 (MGC) Release 9.5(2).
Release 2.5(2)T is a special limited release. It does not provide full support for all PGW 2200 9.5(2) features.
Note
VSPT 2.5(2)T is a customer specific special release only and will not be posted on Cisco.com.
New Features
The following new feature has been added to the 2.5(2) release.
VSPT Timeout:
Because the PGW allows only one provisioning session at a time, VSPT accomplishes multi-user provisioning by placing a provisioning attempt (initiated with the Tools > Deploy menu option) on hold if a provisioning session is already in progress.
After a 45-second timeout, VSPT retries the operation up to three times. The timeout and retry values are specified in the configEditor.properties file located in the following directory:
<VSPT_INSTALL_DIR>/classes/com/cisco/transpath/dart/editor
To change the settings, modify the following lines:
Deploy.Retry=3
Deploy.WaitPOM=45In the case of very large configurations, the import or export may take more than the default time (3 minutes). To address this case, VSPT allows modification to the default time out in the configEditor.properties file. (File location indicated above.) To change the timeout value for import or export, the user may modify the following line (time is in minutes):
DefaultTimeOut=3

System Requirements
The following is the minimum hardware and software you need to run the Cisco VSPT software:

Sun Ultra 5 workstation, 440 MHz or faster
•
Sun Solaris 8 operating system

Open Windows with the Common Desktop Environment (CDE)

8-bit video graphics card
•
128 MB of System RAM
•
128 MB of free disk space (in installation directory)
•
128 MB of free swap space
•
Approximately 4 MB of disk space in the /var partition required for each configuration session
Supported Configurations
These configurations are supported:
•
Cisco MGC Node Manager and Cisco VSPT installed together on a network management server. (Recommended)
•
Cisco MGC Node Manager installed on a network management server and Cisco VSPT installed on a Cisco PGW host machine.
•
Cisco MGC Node Manager installed on a network management server and Cisco VSPT installed on a separate server.
•
Cisco VSPT installed on a PGW host machine or a stand alone Sun Server.
Note
Other element managers may be installed on the network management server.

The following network elements have been tested and verified to work with this release of the Cisco VSPT.

Other network element software versions are not supported with this version.

The X-Windows DISPLAY environment variable must be set in order for you to install the Cisco VSPT:
During installation, the X-Windows DISPLAY environment variable must be set properly. If this variable is not set properly, the installation program exits with a Java error message or simply appears to stop responding. Use the following examples to set your X-Windows DISPLAY environment variable. Replace the value <hostname> with your machine's hostname:
In csh or tcsh:
setenv DISPLAY <hostname>:0In sh or ksh:
DISPLAY=<hostname>:0 ; export $DISPLAY•
If you experience problems or errors deploying to or communicating with a remote machine, check the following points:
–
Ensure that the machine is active and responding to the ping command.
–
Ensure that correct login/passwords have been specified.
•
If you experience errors when deploying to the PGW 2200, check the following points:
–
The PGW 2200 supports only one provisioning session at a time. When deploying to the PGW 2200, ensure that no other provisioning sessions are active.
–
When activating a configuration on the PGW 2200, the PGW 2200 might require that some signaling components are taken out of service before the configuration is activated. If you do not take the component out of service, you receive an MML error message. You can take the component out of service from MML manually, and after that you can activate the configuration.
•
Enter the following command to determine where Cisco VSPT is installed:
/usr/bin/pkgparam _DART_PKG_NAME_ BASEDIR
•
CSCOvsp stores configuration files in the /var/<install directory>/data directory. Each _DART_PKG_NAME_ configuration is stored in a separate directory; the directory name is the same as the configuration name.
In the examples below, the assumption is that CSCOvsp16 was installed in the directory /opt/CSCOvsp16, thus = /opt/CSCOvsp16
–
To rename a configuration, simply rename the directory under /var/opt/_DART_PKG_NAME_/data
–
To remove a configuration, remove the directory under /var/opt/_DART_PKG_NAME_/data
•
To determine where the data directory is located, search for DartStoreDir in the configEditor.properties file:
/usr/bin/grep DartStoreDir /opt/_DART_PKG_NAME_/classes/com/cisco/transpath/dart/editor/configEditor.properties
As a safety precaution, the deinstallation procedure does not remove configuration data. The data must be removed manually.

Submitting a Service Request
Using the online TAC Service Request Tool is the fastest way to open S3 and S4 service requests. (S3 and S4 service requests are those in which your network is minimally impaired or for which you require product information.) Definitions of Service Request Severity
To ensure that all service requests are reported in a standard format, Cisco has established severity definitions.
Severity 1 (S1)—Your network is "down," or there is a critical impact to your business operations. You and Cisco will commit all necessary resources around the clock to resolve the situation.
Severity 2 (S2)—Operation of an existing network is severely degraded, or significant aspects of your business operation are negatively affected by inadequate performance of Cisco products. You and Cisco will commit full-time resources during normal business hours to resolve the situation.
Severity 3 (S3)—Operational performance of your network is impaired, but most business operations remain functional. You and Cisco will commit resources during normal business hours to restore service to satisfactory levels.
Severity 4 (S4)—You require information or assistance with Cisco product capabilities, installation, or configuration. There is little or no effect on your business operations.
