About This Guide

This guide provides instructions specific to the graphical user interface (GUI). In this guide, you will find Cisco Performance Visibility Manager 1.0.2 (Cisco PVM) terminology, basic navigation, and step-by-step procedures for operating Cisco PVM.
Note 
This guide assumes that Cisco PVM has been installed and configured on the host machine and is accessible through an Internet browser from a client workstation. For information about installation, refer to the Cisco Performance Visibility Manager Installation Guide. For information about managing and troubleshooting Cisco PVM, refer to the Cisco Performance Visibility Manager Troubleshooting Guide.
How this Guide is Organized
The organization of the chapters and topics in this guide reflects the order of the tabs and navigation menu items as they appear in the Cisco PVM GUI. This book has the following chapters:
•Chapter 1, "Cisco PVM Overview," provides information about system requirements and the layout of the Cisco PVM GUI (also called the dashboard).
•Chapter 2, "Setup," the menu items under the Setup tab, such as NAM, Thresholds, and Data Source Groups.
•Chapter 3, "Monitor," describes how to run near-real-time reports and generate real-time charts, including examples of each report type.
•Chapter 4, "Reports," describes how to generate historical reports, including examples of each report type.
•Chapter 5, "Application Response Time," describes how to set up ART groups and how to run ART reports, including examples of Network Flight Time and Server Response Time reports.
•Chapter 6, "Alerts," provides information about how to view the list of alerts and individual alert details.
•Chapter 7, "Administration," provides information about the menu items under the Admin tab, such as Security Log, Users, and how to change a user's password.
•Appendix A, "NAM Import File Formats," provides information about the formats you can use to import NAMs into Cisco PVM.
•Appendix B, "Report Samples for Monitor and Reports," provides samples and descriptions of all reports generated in Monitor and Reports.
•Appendix C, "Database Archiving,"provides command-line procedures for enabling database archiving and data retrieval.
Note The tabs and menu items that appear in the Cisco PVM GUI differ based on user permissions.
Audience
This guide is intended for network administrators and others who need to access traffic data through the Cisco PVM GUI.
Conventions
This section explains and gives examples of the terms and writing conventions used in this guide. The term dashboard refers to the web-based user interface that accesses and displays the information stored on the Cisco PVM server.
