This preface describes the audience, organization, and conventions of this publication, and provides information on how to obtain related documentation.

Audience

This publication is for experienced network administrators who are responsible for configuring and maintaining the following:

•Cisco 2200 Series NAM appliances

–Cisco 2204 NAM appliance

–Cisco 2220 NAM appliance

•Catalyst 6500 series switches, the Catalyst 6500 series and Cisco 7600 series Network Analysis Module (NAM)

•Cisco Branch Routers Series Network Analysis Modules (NME-NAM and NM-NAM)

Throughout this document the following general references apply:

•A reference to the Cisco NAM 2200 Series appliance applies to either of the following:

–Cisco 2204 NAM appliance

–Cisco 2220 NAM appliance

•A reference to a NAM-1 or NAM-2 device indicates any of the following modules:

–WS-SVC-NAM-1

–WS-SVC-NAM-1-250S

–WS-SVC-NAM-2

–WS-SVC-NAM-2-250S

•A reference to an NME-NAM device indicates any of the following modules:

–NME-NAM

–NME-NAM-80S

–NME-NAM-120S

•A reference to an NM-NAM device means only an NM-NAM module.

Organization

This publication is organized as follows:

Chapter	Title	Description
Chapter 1	Command-Line Interface	Describes how to log in to the NAM from the switch supervisor engine, information about the two CLI command modes (the command mode and subcommand mode) and information about NAM CLI edit and create modes.
Chapter 2	Network Analysis Module Commands	Lists CLI commands alphabetically and provides detailed information about the commands
Appendix A	NAM Maintenance Partition CLI	Lists the NAM maintenance partition commands.
Appendix B	Acronyms	Defines the acronyms used in this publication.

Conventions

This document uses the following conventions:

Convention	Description
boldface font	Commands, command options, and keywords are in boldface.
italic font	Arguments for which you supply values are in italics.
[   ]	Elements in square brackets are optional.
{ x | y | z }	Alternative keywords are grouped in braces and separated by vertical bars. Braces can also be used to group keywords and/or arguments; for example, {interface interface type}.
[ x | y | z ]	Optional alternative keywords are grouped in brackets and separated by vertical bars.
string	A nonquoted set of characters. Do not use quotation marks around the string or the string will include the quotation marks.
screen font	Terminal sessions and information the system displays are in screen font.
boldface screen font	Information you must enter is in boldface screen font.
italic screen font	Arguments for which you supply values are in italic screen font.
^	The symbol ^ represents the key labeled Control—for example, the key combination ^D in a screen display means hold down the Control key while you press the D key.
<   >	Nonprinting characters, such as passwords are in angle brackets.
[   ]	Default responses to system prompts are in square brackets.
!, #	An exclamation point (!) or a pound sign (#) at the beginning of a line of code indicates a comment line.

Notes use the following conventions:

Note Means reader take note. Notes contain helpful suggestions or references to material not covered in the publication.

Cautions use the following conventions:

Caution Means reader be careful. In this situation, you might do something that could result in equipment damage or loss of data.
