These release notes contain important information about the PDSN Service Manager, Release 4.0. The PDSN SM facilitates service-activation or deactivation in Cisco PDSN devices in Cisco Mobile Exchange networks.

Introduction
A Cisco Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN) provides access to the Internet, intranets, and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) servers for mobile stations that use a CDMA2000 radio access network (RAN).
The PDSN SM is an application that provides an easy and intuitive way to provision service-activation or deactivation in Cisco PDSN devices in Cisco Mobile Exchange networks. You can also use the PDSN SM to troubleshoot and debug by using show and debug commands.
The main components of the PDSN Service Manager are:
•
Inventory—Use this feature to manage and display PDSN device group information. It interfaces with the Common Services Device Credentials Repository (DCR) to obtain information about PDSN devices in the network.
•
Service Manager—Use this feature to activate and manage the various services in an PDSN device group.
•
Tools—Use this feature to troubleshoot and debug by using show and debug commands. You can proactively assess the status of the PDSN devices and, hence, improve network serviceability.

The PDSN SM is part of the Mobile Wireless Center (MWC) for Cisco Mobile Exchange, a suite of element-management applications that provide configuration and fault-monitoring capabilities to mobile wireless operators. The MWC for Cisco Mobile Exchange applications complement the CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution (LMS) to manage the Cisco Mobile Exchange. The LMS is prerequisite to MWC for Cisco Mobile Exchange.
The LMS includes:

Common Services 3.0 with Service Pack 2 (CS 3.0 SP2) and CiscoView 6.1
•
Resource Manager Essentials (RME) 4.0 with RME 4.0.2 update (RME 4.0.2)
•
Campus Manager 4.0
•
Internet Performance Monitor (IPM) 2.6 (optional)

Prerequisites
Before you configure a PDSN by using the PDSN SM:
•
Ensure that the supported PDSN devices and their IOS versions are:
–
PDSN 2.0: 12.3(11)YF, 12.3(11)YF1, 12.3(11)YF2, 12.3(11)YF3
–
PDSN 3.0: 12.3(14)YX
•
Ensure that IOS version of the Catalyst switch and the PDSN version are the same.

Ensure that you configure the device as PDSN. Without this configuration, PDSN SM will fail to identify the device as a Cisco PDSN device.
•
Enable Mobile IP service in the device.
•
Enable SNMP so that the PDSN SM can check the version of the device.
•
Ensure that you configure all the PDSN devices with some prerequisite configurations to manage and configure service activation commands. For more information, see PDSN Configurations For Service Activation.
•
Install CiscoWorks LMS Bundle 2.5 (along with CS 3.0.2 and RME 4.0.2) from Cisco.com prior to installing the PDSN SM.
•
Add the PDSN to be configured to the Device Credentials Repository (DCR).
•
Each device that the PDSN SM references must be in the Resource Manager Essentials (RME) inventory, and the device should be in Normal state.
In the Normal device state, RME has successfully contacted the device or the device has contacted RME at least once (polling, successful job completion, Syslog receipt, and so on). This action indicates that this is a real device in the network (at one point in time).

You must configure the PDSN devices with the following configurations as a prerequisite to manage and configure some service-activation commands by using PDSN SM:
•
Enable PDSN service on the device:
service cdma pdsn
•
Enable FA and Mobile IP service:
router mobile
ip mobile foreign-agent care-of <Interface Name>
ip mobile router

Enable the AAA access control model for Packet of Disconnect (POD) or RADIUS Disconnect configuration.

Enable local user access (via Telnet) when AAA is configured:

If you do not require user login:

If you do not require username and password:

Enable AAA authorization for MSID-based user authentication:

Sun Patches and Packages Requirements
The "Prerequisites" section of the Installation and Setup Guide for CiscoWorks Common Services 3.0 on Solaris lists the required and recommended patches for Solaris 2.8 and 2.9. The required patches are mandatory for all Common Services features to function properly. The recommended patches are optional.
Determining the Software Version
To determine the version of the packages that are installed on your CiscoWorks server:
Step 1
On the CiscoWorks Homepage choose Common Services > Software Center > Software Update. The Software Updates page appears.
Step 2
The software version is listed in the Version field of the Products Installed table.
Installing the PDSN Service Manager
This section contains information on:
Installation Order
The PDSN SM 4.0 requires that the CiscoWorks Common Services application be bundled with the LAN Management Solution (LMS), Release 2.5. The LMS is prerequisite to MWC for Cisco Mobile Exchange.
For new installations, always install the CiscoWorks LMS bundle first.
The two installable units for the PDSN SM are:
•
CMX Core SM 4.0
•
CMX PDSN SM 4.0
Refer to the Release Notes for Mobile Wireless Center for Cisco Mobile Exchange Release 4.0 for information on installing the core. This section provides installation information on installing PDSN SM 4.0.
Installing Procedure
To install the PDSN SM:
Step 1
Install CMX Core SM 4.0. Refer to the Release Notes for Mobile Wireless Center for Cisco Mobile Exchange Release 4.0 for information on this procedure.
Step 2
Insert the PDSN SM 4.0 CD-ROM drive.
Step 3
Enter the following command:
cd /cdrom/cmx_pdsn_sm4_0_sol/CMX-PDSN-SM4.0
Step 4
Enter the following command to install PDSN SM:
./setup.sh
A confirmation message appears after a successful installation. If errors occur during installation, check the installation log file: /var/tmp/pdsninstall.log.
Backup and Restore
You can use PDSN SM to back up and restore:

Device groups that you create
•
Batch files that you create
•
Sync Report files
Backing Up Files
To create a backup of these types of files, enter the command:
/opt/CSCOpx/bin/perl /opt/CSCOpx/bin/backup.pl backup_directory
Restoring Files
To restore the backed-up files, enter the command:
/opt/CSCOpx/bin/perl /opt/CSCOpx/bin/restorebackup.pl -d backup_directory
Uninstalling PDSN SM
To uninstall PDSN SM:
Step 1
Enter the command:
cd /opt/CSCOpx/bin
Step 2
Enter the command to uninstall PDSN SM:
./uninstall.sh
The script prompts you with a list of software that is installed in the host machine.
Step 3
Choose PDSN SM 4.0 and confirm the choice.
Limitations and Restrictions
This section lists some limitations in PDSN SM:
•
Configuring default values of service-activation parameters
When you configure default values of service-activation parameters in the PDSN SM GUI, the corresponding command is generated and downloaded to the device; but, the values do not appear in the GUI.
•
The Job Details window reports the output of some commands as:
–
Failed, although they are configured on the devices.
–
Successful, although they are not configured on the devices.
CSCsc21866, and CSCsc28215 are examples of this behaviour. Verify the output of the configurations on the device.
•
ODAP client and server pools
PDSN 2.1 and PDSN 3.0 IOS allows you to configure ODAP server pools in ODAP clients and vice versa. See, CSCsc22619 for more information.
If such pools exist in a device, the Display Config window and the Sync Report Config Diff Viewer will list all the configured pools irrespective of the PDSN SM group type.•
Local Time-Zone in PCF Security Associations
For PDSN 2.1 devices, you cannot configure the local time-zone in PCF security associations (Service Manager > Service Activation > PCF Security Associations), when the security key is of Hex format. The local time-zone check box is disabled when you select a security key of Hex format.

Options in Show command
PDSN SM supports only the first level options of all the show commands. For more information, see the "Show Commands" section in the User Guide for Cisco Packet Data Serving Node Service Manager.
•
Configuring session redundancy
Session redundancy configuration is enabled only in MWAM devices. But, you can use PDSN SM to configure these commands on Cisco 7200 and MWAM devices by choosing Service Manager > Service Activation > Session Redundancy.

Submitting a Service Request
Using the online TAC Service Request Tool is the fastest way to open S3 and S4 service requests. (S3 and S4 service requests are those in which your network is minimally impaired or for which you require product information.) After you describe your situation, the TAC Service Request Tool provides recommended solutions. Definitions of Service Request Severity
To ensure that all service requests are reported in a standard format, Cisco has established severity definitions.
Severity 1 (S1)—Your network is "down," or there is a critical impact to your business operations. You and Cisco will commit all necessary resources around the clock to resolve the situation.
Severity 2 (S2)—Operation of an existing network is severely degraded, or significant aspects of your business operation are negatively affected by inadequate performance of Cisco products. You and Cisco will commit full-time resources during normal business hours to resolve the situation.
Severity 3 (S3)—Operational performance of your network is impaired, but most business operations remain functional. You and Cisco will commit resources during normal business hours to restore service to satisfactory levels.
Severity 4 (S4)—You require information or assistance with Cisco product capabilities, installation, or configuration. There is little or no effect on your business operations.
