Deployment Flow Manager

A service deployment typically involves multiple service features that in turn require service provisioning to work as a flow. The ISC Deployment Flow Manager enables you to provision several service requests into a single flow for deployment.

The Deployment Flow Manager deploys different types of pre-defined ISC services such as:

MPLS

IPsec

L2VPN

QoS

Firewall

This section describes how you can create, manage, and monitor Deployment Flows and includes the following:

Deleting Deployment Flows

Accessing the Deployment Flow Manager Window

The Deployment Flow Manager feature is used to create, manage, and monitor Deployment Flows.

To access the Deployment Flow Manager window, do the following:

Step 1 Navigate Service Inventory > Deployment Flow Manager to access the Deployment Flows window shown in Figure 5-2.

Figure 5-2 Deployment Flows Window

From the Deployment Flows window, you can create, modify, and manage deployment flows using the following buttons:

Create Click to create new deployment flow. Enabled only if no deployment flow is selected.

Modify Click to modify a selected deployment flow (select by clicking the corresponding box). Enabled only if one deployment flow is selected and the flow has not been started (NOT_STARTED).

Delete Click to delete selected deployment flow (select by clicking the corresponding boxes). Enabled only if the selected flows are not running (RUNNING).

Run Click to run a selected deployment flow (select by clicking the corresponding box). Enabled only if one deployment flow is selected.

Resume Click to resume a selected deployment flows (select by clicking the corresponding boxes). Enabled only if the selected deployment flows are suspended (SUSPENDED).

The Deployment Flows window displays the status of the flow. The Deployment Flow Manager supports the following flow states:

notStarted The process instance has been created, but has not started yet

running The process instance is executing

suspended Deployment of the process instance is temporarily suspended

completed Deployment of the process instance is completed

Creating and Executing a Deployment Flow

Deploying a flow involves two basic tasks: defining the steps in the flow, and executing the steps once they have been specified. From the Create Deployment Flow window, you can perform both tasks.

To create a deployment flow, do the following:

Step 1 Navigate Service Inventory > Deployment Flow Manager.

Step 2 Click the Create button.

The Create a Deployment Flow - Select Steps window appears, as shown in Figure 5-3.

Figure 5-3 Create a Deployment Flow - Select Steps Window

The Create a Deployment Flow - Select Steps window contains the following fields:

Flow Name (required) Must begin with a letter, digit, or underscore followed by letters, digits, underscores, spaces, hyphens, or dots ending with a letter, digit, or underscore. Range: 1 to 80 characters.

Description (optional) Limited to 512 characters. May contain any pertinent information about the flow that may be helpful to service provider operators.

Restrict upload config to beginning and download config to end of flow (optional) Checkbox that determines usage. Default: unchecked. Refer to the section "Restrict Uploads and Downloads" for more information.

Combine Steps (optional) Checkbox that determines usage. Default: unchecked. Refer to the section "Combined Steps" for more information.

Notify Users (optional) Checkbox that determines if the User's Email Addresses field appears. Default: unchecked.

Matching/Filter (optional) Provides filtering of Available Steps based on information you enter in the Matching field.

Available Steps Lists the steps that are available from which you can select for deployment in flow. To select a step, click on it and then click on the right arrow.

Flow Steps Lists the steps that have been selected for deployment in the specified flow.

Step 3 Enter the required name of the flow, along with any description of other selections that you desire.

Step 4 You can filter the list of Available Steps by entering the characters you want in Matching and then clicking Filter.

Step 5 Select the steps from the Available Steps area for deployment in the flow that you are creating.

You must select at least one step.

Step 6 Specify usage, if desired. Refer to the following section, "Deployment Flow Usages" for information on the different usages.

Step 7 Click Next.

Depending on any usage that you specified, a Create a Deployment Flow - Step Properties window similar to the one shown in Figure 5-4 appears.

Figure 5-4 Create a Deployment Flow - Step Properties Window

Step 8 Review the information displayed. Do one of the following:

If you wish to make changes to the information displayed, click Back. The Create a Deployment Flow - Select Steps window reappears and you can make the desired changes.

If you wish to finalize the flow as specified, click Finish. The Deployment Flows window appears displaying a Status with a green check for Succeeded, as shown in Figure 5-5.

Figure 5-5 Deployment Flow Status Window

Step 9 To execute the flow, select the checkbox for the flow and click Run.

Deployment Flow Usages

Within the Deployment Flow Manager, you can deploy a flow with one of the following:

Multiple uploads and downloads

Restrict upload config to beginning and download config to end of flow

Combined steps

Multiple Uploads and Downloads

If you do not specify a usage, the steps that you select are deployed one step at a time in the order specified. This results in multiple uploads and downloads of device configlets.

When you view the Create a Deployment Flow - Step Properties window with no usage specified, a window similar to Figure 5-6 appears.

Figure 5-6 Create a Deployment Flow - Step Properties with No Usage Specified

Note that only the steps selected appear in the Step Names area.

Restrict Uploads and Downloads

If you click the Restrict upload config to beginning and download config to end of flow checkbox in the Create a Deployment Flow - Select Steps window, the steps selected are deployed one at a time. The upload of the device configlets occurs only at the beginning of the flow and the download of the device configlets occurs only at the end of the flow.

When you view the Create a Deployment Flow - Step Properties window with the restrict uploads and downloads usage specified, a window similar to Figure 5-7 appears.

Figure 5-7 Create a Deployment Flow - Step Properties with Restrict Uploads and Downloads Specified

Note that the Step Names area now lists Upload Device Configlet, the selected steps, and Download Device Configlet. These steps are deployed in this order.

Combined Steps

If you click the Combine Steps checkbox in the Create a Deployment Flow - Select Steps window, all device configlets are uploaded at the beginning and downloaded at the end of the flow.

Note Using the Combined Steps usage, you can bundle several services together as a unit for service deployment. The services in the flow are executed as one unit.

When you view the Create a Deployment Flow - Step Properties window with Combined Steps usage specified, a window similar to Figure 5-8 appears.

Figure 5-8 Create a Deployment Flow - Step Properties with Combined Usage Specified

Note that only one line appears in the Step Names area.
