Adding Views to CiscoWorks LMS Portal


You can add views to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and organize portlets in a view. You can add, modify, delete, and rename a view. However, you cannot delete the Functional View.

Adding a View

You can add a new View to CiscoWorks LMS Portal application.

Adding a new view helps you to consolidate information that is specific to a particular function. It also enables you to group data from different LMS applications into a single page. You can add a view using the Add View icon and Manage View icon

To add a view using Add View icon.


Step 1 Go to the CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Add View icon.

A dialog box appears. You can enter the name of the field in this dialog box.

Step 2 Enter the view name and click Save.

A new view is created. A new tab with the name you entered, appears on the home page.


To add a view using Manage View icon:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Click the LMS root node icon on the tree structure at the left of the page

Step 3 Enter the new view name in the Name field.

Step 4 A message confirming your request appears and the new view name is added into the CiscoWorks LMS Portal page.

If you are doing a fresh installation of CiscoWorks LMS Portal 1.2 , you can add a view name with alphanumeric characters and underscores(_).

However, if you are upgrading to CiscoWorks LMS Portal 1.2 from a lower version , any special characters that exist in the earlier view names will be replaced with underscores(_).

You can also add Views based on the types such as portlet,URL and Embedded.

To select the view type as portlet:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Select the LMS root node from the left of the page.

The New View tab appears.

a. Select the New View tab.

b. Enter the name of the view in the Name field

c. Select the view type as Portlet from the Type drop-down list.

d. Click the Add View button.

The new view gets added.


To select the view type as Embedded:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Select the LMS root node from the left side of the page.

The New View tab appears:

a. Select the New View tab.

b. Enter the name of the view in the Name field

c. Select the view type as Embedded from the Type drop-down list.

A URL field appears.

d. Enter the URL in the URL field.

e. Click Save.

The URL gets embedded within the view. It is added to the other tabs in the navigation bar.


To select the view type as a URL:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Select the LMS root node from the left side of the page.

The New View tab appears:

a. Select the New View tab.

b. Enter the name of the view in the Name field

c. Select the view type as URL from the Type drop-down list.

A URL field appears.

d. Enter the URL in the URL field.

e. Click Save.

The URL is saved in the view.


Adding a Child View

You can add a child view or sub view within a main view.

To add a child view


Step 1 Go to the CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Select any one of the views from the LMS tree structure displayed at the left of the page.

Step 3 Select the Children tab.

Step 4 Enter the name of the new view in the Name field.

Step 5 Click Add View.

A new child view is added within the selected View.


Deleting a View

You can only delete a view that you create (a user-defined view). For instance, you create a view and add contents into it as required and later delete it.


Note You cannot delete a pre-defined view or System-defined View.


Pre-defined or System-defined views are available with the application. These are Functional, System, Network and Application views. Application views are based on the applications installed.

To delete a view:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon at the top right corner of the page.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Select the view you want to delete from the tree structure on the left.

The selected View name appears in the Name field.

Step 3 Click Delete to delete the view.

A message appears prompting you to confirm your decision.

Step 4 Click OK to confirm.

A message appears confirming that the view has been deleted. The View is permanently deleted after you click the Update button.


You can also delete a view using the following procedure.


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon at the top right corner of the page.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Click the LMS root node icon on the tree structure at the left of the page.

Step 3 Click the Display Order tab.

The Set the Display Order of Views dialog box appears.

Step 4 Select the view to be deleted from this dialog box and click the Remove icon.

A warning appears informing you that the selected view will be deleted when you click Update to apply the changes.

The view is permanently deleted after you click the Update button.



Note You can also delete a view by moving the mouse over the views in the navigation bar and clicking the red icon.


Deleting a Child View

You can delete a newly created Child View.

To delete a Child View:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon at the top right corner of the page.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Select the view name from the LMS tree structure displayed at the left side of the page.

Step 3 Click the Expand button of the view.

The name of the Child views appear.

Step 4 Select the Display Order tab.

The Child view names appear in the Set the display order of views box.

Step 5 Select the Child view to be deleted and click the Delete button.

A warning appears that the selected view will be deleted when you click Update button to apply the changes.

The Child view is permanently deleted after you click the Update button.


Renaming a View

You can rename a view in the CiscoWorks LMS Portal application.

To rename a view:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon at the top right corner of the page.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Select the View name to be renamed from the tree structure on the left.

The Name field displays the View name.

Step 3 Rename the view name from the Name field.

The new view name appears on the view. This name appears on the tree structure on the left and on the tabs on the home page.

Step 4 Click Save to view the renamed view in CiscoWorks LMS Portal.



Note You can also rename a view by double clicking on the selected view. However, you cannot rename a read only view. For example, Functional View.


Managing Your Community

In this release, there are three communities in CiscoWorks LMS Portal.

They are:

My Portal

This is a private community portal where you can add or modify the portlets or views. The Private page of the previous release of CiscoWorks Portal has been changed to My Portal community in this release.

CiscoWorks Portal

This is a public community portal where you can add or modify the portlets or views.

LMS

This is a public community portal only for LMS users. Only these users they can add or modify portlets or views.


Note CiscoWorks Portal and LMS community are the Public pages of the previous release of CiscoWorks LMS Portal.

You can select My Portal from the drop-down box displayed at the top right corner of CiscoWorks LMS Portal and set your community as My Portal.

The portlets and views that were in the My Private page of the previous release will be moved to My Portal community.

My Portal allows you to:

Add views

Add portlets

Customize views or portlets

Copy views

Delete the created views or portlets.

Select Portal as LMS

You can select LMS from the drop-down box displayed at the top right corner of CiscoWorks LMS Portal and set your community as LMS.

The portlets and views that were in the Public page of the previous page are moved to LMS community.

LMS allows you to:

Add views

Add portlets

Delete portlets. However, you cannot delete read only view portlets. For example, Functional View.

Copy Views

Select Portal as CiscoWorks Portal

You can select CiscoWorks Portal from the drop-down box displayed at the top right corner of CiscoWorks LMS Portal and set your community as CiscoWorks Portal.

The portlets and views that were in the Public page of the previous release of CiscoWorks Portal are moved to CiscoWorks Portal community.

Delete portlets. However, you cannot delete read only view portlets. For example, Functional View.

Copy views

Copying Portlets to a New View

You can copy an existing view. This allows you to create a new view with the attributes of the original view. However, you must name each view with a unique name. You can modify the attributes of the new view, as required.

To copy a view:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon at the top right corner of the page.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Select the view you want to copy to from the tree structure on the left.

The selected view name appears in the Name field.

Step 3 Select the view you want to copy from the Copy Page drop-down list.

When you copy an existing view to a new view, it will overwrite the contents of the previous view.

For example, if you copy all the contents of an RME View to DFM View, the DFM View contents will be overwritten by RME View.

Step 4 Click Save to save the changes.


Setting the Display Order of the Views

You can set the display order of views in the CiscoWorks LMS Portal.

To set the display order of views:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon at the top right corner of the page.

TheView Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Click the LMS root node icon on the tree structure on the left.

Step 3 Click the Display Order tab.

The Set the Display Order of Views dialog box appears.

Step 4 Select the view from the list box, and click the Up Arrow or Down Arrow button to rearrange the Views.

Step 5 Click Update to apply the changes.


Restoring the Default Settings of a View

You can use this feature in CiscoWorks LMS Portal, if you want to revert a customized view to its original settings.

For instance, if after changing the color of the System View or after deleting portlets from the System View, you want to revert the System View to its original settings, with the default portlets and the original color.


Note You can only restore the default Views (System, Network and all application Views) in CiscoWorks LMS Portal.


To restore a default view:


Step 1 Go to CiscoWorks LMS Portal and click the Manage View icon at the top right corner of the page.

The View Settings portlet appears.

Step 2 Select the View name (for example, System) from the tree structure on the left.

The Name field displays the View name.

Step 3 Click the Restore button to return to the default view.

A message appears prompting you to confirm your decision.

Step 4 Click OK to confirm your decision.


Modifying the Banner

The home page of CiscoWorks LMS Portal has a banner with the name "CiscoWorks LMS Portal".

However, if you have multiple communities and if you switch between the multiple communities, the banner changes accordingly.

For example, if you log into LMS Portal and then switches to a different community such as My portal then the banner changes from" CiscoWorks LMS Portal" to "CiscoWorks user name"
