Getting Started with CiscoWorks LMS Portal

CiscoWorks LMS Portal is the first page that appears when you launch the LMS application. It serves as an interface, launch point and top-level navigation for the frequently used functions in the application.

You can view the important statistics and details of the LMS applications installed on your CiscoWorks server, in a single page instead of navigating through several pages to view the required data.

The views and portlets are the basic units in CiscoWorks LMS Portal.

View is a method to display information in CiscoWorks LMS Portal. The views are displayed as tabs. The content in a view is organized using portlets. Portlets are the user interface components that are displayed in the view. They can be plugged into, displayed in, and managed using CiscoWorks LMS Portal.

Benefits of CiscoWorks LMS Portal

The benefits of LMS Portal are:

Easy access to information —You can view the important features of all the installed applications on CiscoWorks server. To do this you can click the corresponding views in CiscoWorks LMS Portal, instead of launching each applications separately.

For example, with the LMS Portal, you can access the Change Audit report (RME) using only two clicks, whereas in the earlier versions of LMS 2.6, it required seven clicks to launch the details.

Easy customization—You can modify and personalize your application, using options and icons such as Layout, Look and Feel, and Configuration in CiscoWorks LMS Portal.

Lightweight GUI—Eliminates the need to install any plug-ins to launch the application.

Multi-server support—Lists all the portlets based on the applications installed on remote servers.

What's New in This Release

The following are the new portlets and features in CiscoWorks LMS Portal 1.0.1:

Syslog Collectors Information portlet in Resource Manager Essentials View

This portlet displays the list of remote Syslog collectors subscribed to the RME server.

It contains Syslog collector informations such as the name of the remote Syslog, analyser name, status, the number of packets received and so on. This portlet will not be added to any view by default. However, it is listed under the RME link and you can add the portlet to any View.

Servers and Applications portlet in Common Services View

This portlet enables you to launch the DCR Master/Server installed applications home page. If the server is in Standalone mode, the portlet displays its own installed applications home page.

Device Discovery portlet in Common Services View

This portlet gives the summary of the devices, such as the total number of devices discovered, reachable devices, unreachable devices, devices added to DCR, devices updated to DCR and so on.

Additional features in Frequently Used Links portlet

This includes features such as the edit, delete, reset button, drag and drop features for the newly added links.

Manual Refresh icon

A new refresh icon at the top right corner of the Portal home page. You can click the refresh icon to view the latest data of the portlets in the view. However, the browser refresh (Functional key F5) only refreshes the screen not the data.

Columnar Layout

A new columnar layout (2:1:2-1) has been introduced in this release and the portlets can be organized in the corresponding format.

Row Shading

To enhance the look and feel and understanding of the portlets, rows and column separators are used.

Launching CiscoWorks LMS Portal

LMS 3.0.1 uses port 1741 for the HTTP server and port 443 for HTTPS server (SSL).

To access the server from a client system, enter any one of these URLs in your web browser:

If SSL is disabled, and if you have installed LMS applications on the default port, enter:

http://server_name:1741

If SSL is enabled, and if you have installed LMS applications on the default port, enter:

https://server_name:443

where server_name is the hostname of the server on which you have installed LMS applications.

If IIS is detected on your system, the port number 443 cannot be used as it will result in port conflict. Instead, you can use a port number ranging from 1024 to 65535.

The CiscoWorks LMS Portal is displayed.
