Configuring HP OpenView for Full NTFS Privileges


This appendix describes how to create an account that has full NTFS privileges with HP OpenView. You must perform this procedure if HP OpenView is installed on a NTFS partition.


Note This procedure is required for Windows NT, not Windows 2000.

Note Perform these procedures after upgrading all remote HPOV-NetView Adapters. Otherwise, after performing these procedures, you will have to manually remove the old adapter before installing the new one.


Creating a User Account with Full NTFS Privileges

To create in your local domain a user account with full NTFS privilege (for example, Administrator), perform these steps:


Step 1 Select Start > Programs > Administrative Tools (Common) > User Manager. The User Manager application opens.

Step 2 Create the New User account by selecting User > New User. The New User dialog box appears.

Step 3 Complete these fields in the New User dialog box:

a. In the Username field, enter OpenView.

b. In the Full Name field, enter OpenView Administration.

c. In the Description field, enter Permit operation from OpenView services.

d. In the Password field, enter your password.

e. In the Confirm Password field, re-enter your password.

Step 4 From the New User dialog box, deactivate all check box selections.

Step 5 From the New User dialog box, click Groups. The Group Memberships dialog box appears.

a. Remove the current members:

In Member Of, select each entry.

Click Remove.

b. Add the Administrator to the current members:

In Not member of, select Administrators.

Click Add.

c. Click OK.

Step 6 In the New User dialog box, click OK. The New User dialog box closes, and the new OpenView account appears in the Username list.

Step 7 Select Policies > User Rights. The User Rights Policy dialog box appears.

a. Activate the Show Advanced User Rights check box.

b. From the Right  drop-down list, select  Log on as a service.

c. Click Add... The Add Users and Groups dialog box appears.

In the List Names From drop-down list, select your local domain.

Click Show Users.

In the Names field, select OpenView and click Add. OpenView appears in the Add Names field.

Click OK.

OpenView appears in the Grant To field of the User Rights Policy dialog box.

Step 8 Click OK and exit the User Manager application.


Configuring the HP OpenView Process Manager Service

To configure the Process Manager Service, follow these steps.


Step 1 Select Start > Control Panel > Services. The Services application appears.

Step 2 In the Service field, select HP OpenView Process Manager and click Startup.... The Service dialog box appears.

Step 3 In the Log On As section, activate the This Account radio button and click "..." The Add User dialog box appears.

a. From the List Names From drop-down list, select your local domain. The newly created user account appears in the Names field.

b. In the Names field, select OpenView and click Add. OpenView appears in the Add Name field.

c. Click OK. The Add User dialog box closes.

Step 4 Complete the remaining fields in the Service dialog box:

a. Enter your password in the Password field.

b. Re-enter your password in the Confirm Password field.

c. Click OK.

d. If the Service field displays OpenView as running:

Select OpenView and click Stop.

When the Service field displays OpenView as stopped, select OpenView and click Start.

Step 5 Exit the Services application.


Note Proceed to the following section to verify whether you need to remove and reinstall the HPOV-NetView adapter.




Note If you perform these procedures before installing the DFM 1.1 version of a remote HPOV-NetView Adapter, you must manually remove the old remote adapter before installing the new version. This procedure is described in the "Installing or Upgrading the HPOV-NetView Adapter on a Remote Host Not Running CiscoWorks2000" section.
