Password Information
This appendix provides information on the usage of passwords in CiscoWorks Common Services installation. It contains:

CiscoWorks Admin Password
•
CiscoWorks Guest Password
•
CiscoWorks Common Services Database Password
•
Licensing Database Password
CiscoWorks Admin Password
While entering the CiscoWorks Admin passwords:
•
Use a minimum of 5 characters.
•
Do not insert spaces between characters.
•
Do not leave the password field blank.
CiscoWorks Guest Password
While entering the CiscoWorks Guest passwords:
•
Use a minimum of 5 characters.
•
Do not insert spaces between characters.
•
Do not leave the password field blank.
CiscoWorks Common Services Database Password
While entering the CiscoWorks Common Services Database passwords:
•
Use a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 characters.
•
Enter only valid characters. These are: a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
•
Do not start the password with a number.
•
Do not insert spaces between characters.
•
Do not leave the password field blank.
Licensing Database Password
While entering the Licensing Database passwords:
•
Use a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 characters.
•
Enter only valid characters. These are: a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
•
Do not start the password with a number.
•
Do not insert spaces between characters.
•
Do not leave the password field blank.
New Installation
The following rules apply for a new installation:
•
In Express and Typical mode, if you do not enter the passwords, the installation generates random passwords.
•
In Custom mode, you need to provide passwords.
Upgrade Installation and Reinstallation
The following rules apply for upgrade and reinstallation:
•
In Express and Typical mode, passwords from the earlier installation are retained.
If you have not entered a password for CiscoWorks admin or guest user during the previous installation, a warning appears:
The password for the cwuser user is empty. For security reasons
you must change the password as soon as you can from CiscoWorks
Desktop.
Where cwuser is either CiscoWorks admin or guest.

In Custom mode, you need to provide passwords.
