Cisco Healthcare Services Extension for HIPAA and ePrescription (AON HSE) is a healthcare services application that is built on the Cisco Application-Oriented Networking (AON) platform. Using the information and access features of Cisco AON with added mailbox and file transformation technology provided with the AON HSE Operations Management Console (OMC), the AON HSE allows healthcare service providers to exchange prescription information and patient eligibility information based on current electronic data transfer (EDI) standards.

AON HSE 1.0 Product Features
AON HSE 1.0 provides the following main features:

Simplified Web-Based Management Console—In addition to the AON Management Console (AMC) and AON Application Development Studio (ADS) applications, AON HSE includes an Operations Management Console (OMC) that enables centrally provisioning and management of HIPAA-compliant document exchange over the Internet

Support for Major HIPAA and NCPDP Standards—AON HSE 1.0 supports Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) message transformation and delivery. AON HSE 1.0 supports transformation of messages to and from the following formats:

Secure, Reliable, and Interoperable Information Exchange—AON HSE 1.0 supports secure transmission of any document, regardless of type, over the Internet, using proven, interoperable message transport standards including HTTP over SSL, payload encryption, digital signatures, reliable delivery, and authentication and authorization support.

Logging and Archiving—AON HSE provides log files and archive files that allow review and diagnosis of processing events and aid in troubleshooting system problems.
•
Built-in Monitoring—Using the OMC, you can monitor the transmission of files and associated and Message Disposition Notifications (MDNs), as well as alerts for routing, transformation and delivery errors.

Configurable Alerts—You can configure alerts based on message type or message content
•
E-mail and Cisco Unified Communications Support—AON HSE provides e-mail and Cisco Unified Communications support, including text messaging and text to speech conversion for sending alerts to handsets/phones
•
Direct Integration with Standard Integration Protocols—AON HSE can be integrated with healthcare information systems utilizing application integration protocols including JMS, Web Services, and JDBC as well as direct file system access for document delivery/pickup using FS and CIFS.

Centralized Remote Management—You can manage the AON HSE components remotely.
•
Integrated Hardware/Software system with Built-in Support for Clustering and Load Balancing—The core AON application supports node clustering and load balancing, which simplify operations and reduce the total cost of ownership.
•
Policy Execution Profiles—The Cisco ADS provides a simple to use, policy driven execution framework for system extension and customization, including a workflow designer for message workflow modification.
•
API Support—The core AON application provides an API and SDK for customer or third-party development of additional functionality using Java.

Table 1 lists the minimum requirements for installing Cisco AON 3.0 and Cisco AON HSE 1.0.
