Getting Started with Cisco ANA Manage

This chapter describes the Cisco ANA Manage working environment and how to access Cisco ANA Manage tools and commands. It also provides instructions for launching and operating Cisco ANA Manage with its menu and toolbar options.

The Cisco ANA Manage window provides access to all Cisco ANA Manage functionality.

Starting Cisco ANA Manage

Cisco ANA Manage is password-protected to ensure security, and is available only to users with administrator privileges. Before you start working with Cisco ANA Manage, make sure you know the username, password, and Cisco ANA gateway IP address or hostname that you require.

Note If a user does not log into the Cisco ANA Manage, Cisco ANA NetworkVision, or Cisco ANA EventVision applications during a specified period of time (the default is one month), the user's account is locked automatically. The default period can be changed in the Cisco ANA Registry. The period of time is measured from the time the user last logged out of any of the Cisco ANA client applications. For information about unlocking a user, see Editing User Rights, page 10-8.

To start Cisco ANA Manage:

---

Step 1 From the Start menu, choose Programs > Cisco ANA > Cisco ANA Manage. The Cisco ANA Manage Login dialog box is displayed.

Step 2 Enter the account username and password.

Note We recommend that you change the login password after logging in for the first time.

---

The last four Cisco ANA gateways to which you logged in successfully are displayed in the Host drop-down list. The list is displayed in chronological order with the most recent gateway appearing at the top of the list.

Step 3 In the Host field, specify the Cisco ANA gateway to log into in one of the following ways:

•Select a Cisco ANA gateway from the drop-down list.

Note The gateway IP address or hostname that was used when you last logged in automatically appears at the top of the Host drop-down list.

•Enter the Cisco ANA gateway information as an IP address or hostname.

---

Note Make sure that you use the leading IP address (the IP address on which the Cisco ANA gateway was configured) when logging into the system.

Step 4 Click OK. The Cisco ANA Manage window is displayed. The username and host information are displayed in the window title.

Note The workspace in the Cisco ANA Manage window might appear empty when the application is opened for the first time.

The Cisco ANA Manage Window

Figure 2-1 identifies the components of the Cisco ANA Manage window.

The Cisco ANA Manage window includes:

•Tree Pane

•Workspace

•Table Toolbar

The status bar displays the memory usage of the application process, and connection status.

Dragging the window borders adjusts the size of each area.

Tree Pane

The tree pane displays a tree-and-branch representation of the Cisco ANA Manage folders. The branches can be expanded and collapsed to display and hide information as needed.

Table 2-1 describes the Cisco ANA Manage branches and identifies the tasks associated with each branch.

Maintenance Links	Displays all links currently in maintenance mode. For more information, see Maintenance Links Branch.	•View all links in maintenance mode. •Remove links from maintenance mode.
Scopes	Groups a collection of managed network elements so users can view and manage network elements based on their specified role. See Scopes Branch.	•View a list of scopes. •Add and delete scopes. •View a scope's properties.
Topology	Manages topology-related parameters, namely, the static links between devices. For more information, see Topology Branch.	•View a list of static links. •Add static links between two network elements. •Delete static links.
Users	Defines and manages user accounts. For more information, see Users Branch.	•View a list of users. •Create and delete users. •Edit a user's password. •View a user's account properties.
Workflow Engine	Manages workflow templates and running workflows in runtime. For more information, see Workflow Engine Branch.	•View a list of deployed workflow templates. •View the properties of a workflow template. •Delete workflow templates. •View a list of the running or completed workflows and the status of each. •View the output of a workflow. •Stop a workflow that is being processed or that has been completed, and initiate rollback. •Delete workflows. •View the properties of a workflow.

Click a branch in the tree pane to view information relating to the selected branch in the workspace. Right-click a branch in the tree pane to open a shortcut menu to perform various functions.

Table 2-2 identifies the icons that appear in the Cisco ANA Manage window.

Note The menus and toolbar displayed in the Cisco ANA Manage window are context sensitive; the options vary depending on your selection in the tree pane and workspace.

Workspace

The workspace displays Cisco ANA Manage information that is related to the branch selected in the tree pane. The workspace is divided into the following two parts:

•The upper pane displays the properties of the element that is selected in the tree pane.

•The lower pane displays the element's nested children in table format.

Note Use the Ctrl key to select multiple rows in a workspace table.

---

The status bar displays the number of selected rows and the total number of rows in the table; for example, 6/6 Selected. It also displays the location of the currently selected row in the table, such as Line 2.

Table Toolbar

When a table forms part of the workspace, the same toolbar is displayed, no matter which branch is selected in the tree pane (see Table 2-3).

	Export to CSV	Saves the current working environment as a file in Cisco ANA. See Exporting the Table to a File, page 4-5.
	Sort Table Values	Sorts the information displayed in the table; for example, according to status or IP address.
	Filter	Defines a filter on the information displayed in the workspace table, using the Filter dialog box. See Filtering Information, page 4-2. Note The Set Selection Filter button and the Rewind All option under the Previous Selection Filter button become available only when a filter is applied.
	Previous Selection Filter	Undoes the last applied filter selection.
	Set Selection Filter	Applies filters to the selected line or lines. Note When you choose one or more lines in a table, the Previous Selection Filter button becomes available.
	Rewind All	Undoes all previously applied filter selections, and returns the originally displayed data to the workspace table. Note This option is available only when a filter is applied.
	Help	Opens the Cisco ANA Manage online help.

The Find field is used to search for information relating to the branch selected in the tree pane. See Finding Text in a Table, page 4-2.

Cisco ANA Manage Window, Menus, and Toolbars

This section provides a detailed description of the information displayed in the Cisco ANA Manage window for each of the following branches:

•ANA Servers Branch

•ANA Server Entities Sub-Branch, including the Cisco ANA gateway and Cisco ANA units

•AVM Sub-Branch

•Global Settings Branch

•Maintenance Links Branch

•Scopes Branch

•Topology Branch

•Users Branch

•Workflow Engine Branch

ANA Servers Branch

Cisco ANA Manage maintains a list of all servers defined in the system. The ANA Servers branch is used to add and remove unit servers.

You can expand this branch to view a list of the units, gateways, and AVMs. Each gateway, unit, and AVM has its own sub-branch. The ANA Servers branch with its associated sub-branches is used to manage information relating to the AVMs and VNEs contained in the units.

Note AVMs and VNEs reside on a unit as a common configuration, but they can also reside on a gateway.

The ANA Servers branch contains the following sub-branches:

The workspace table lists all gateways and units, and their status. You can sort rows in ascending or descending order by clicking the column heading that you want to sort by. To change the sort order, click the column heading again.

Note Any changes that are made to the ANA Servers branch are automatically saved and immediately registered in Cisco ANA.

Table 2-4 describes the columns displayed in the ANA Servers workspace table.

Column	Description
IP Address	The IP address of the unit or gateway as defined in Cisco ANA Manage.
Status	The status of the unit: •Up—The unit is up. •Down—The unit is down. •Unreachable—The unit cannot be reached.
Up Since	The date and time when the unit was last loaded.
Physical Memory	The physical memory of the unit.
Used Memory	The memory being used by the unit.
Allocated Memory	The amount of memory allocated to the unit. Allocated memory is the sum of all memory settings for all AVMs.
Protection Group	The protection group to which the unit is allocated.
AVM HA	The unit is enabled or disabled for high availability: •True—The unit is enabled for high availability. This is the default value. •False—The unit is not enabled for high availability.

ANA Servers Branch Menus

Table 2-5 describes the ANA Servers branch menu options.

Properties	Displays the ANA Unit Properties dialog box. This dialog box lists the properties of the selected unit and indicates its status. See Editing Cisco ANA Unit Properties, page 5-5.
Delete	Deletes the selected unit.

ANA Servers Branch Toolbar

Table 2-6 shows the ANA Servers branch toolbar options.

ANA Server Entities Sub-Branch

The ANA Server Entities sub-branch includes the ANA Gateway and ANA Unit sub-branches. All options described in this section refer to both sub-branches.

The ANA Server Entities sub-branch enables you to manage information relating to the AVMs and VNEs on a selected unit. These include:

•Adding, editing, and removing an AVM.

•Switching manually to the standby unit.

•Viewing AVM properties.

•Moving AVMs.

•Starting and stopping AVMs and VNEs.

•Adding VNEs.

Figure 2-3 shows an example of the Cisco ANA Manage window with an ANA Servers Gateway sub-branch selected.

Each row in the workspace table displays the status of an AVM. The AVMs can be sorted in ascending or descending order by clicking the column heading in the table.

Table 2-7 describes the columns that are displayed in the AVMs workspace table.

Column	Description
ID	The name of the AVM as defined in Cisco ANA and unique to the AVM; for example, AVM 18.
Status	The status of the AVM: •Starting Up—The AVM is starting. •Up—The AVM is up. •Shutting Down—The AVM is stopping. •Down—The AVM is down. •Unreachable—The AVM cannot be reached.
Up Since	The date and time that the unit was last started.
Max. Memory	The maximum allocated memory size as defined when the AVM was created in Cisco ANA Manage. The default value is 256 MB.
Key	The key of the AVM, which is unique to the system. By default, the key is displayed as "AVM + ID + timestamp."

ANA Server Entities Sub-Branch Toolbar

Table 2-9 shows the ANA Server Entities sub-branch toolbar options.

	Deletes the selected unit.
	Searches for an AVM or VNE among the Cisco ANA servers. Note The search tool searches only on the selected unit and its sub-branches. It does not search all units.

AVM Sub-Branch

The AVM sub-branch enables you to manage information relating to the VNEs in a selected AVM, including:

•Adding, editing, and removing a VNE.

•Viewing VNE or AVM properties.

•Deleting an AVM.

•Moving AVMs and VNEs.

•Starting and stopping VNEs or AVMs.

•Moving VNEs to maintenance mode.

Figure 2-4 shows an example of the Cisco ANA Manage window with an AVM sub-branch selected.

When you choose the AVM sub-branch, the workspace displays the properties of the AVM and a table with the list of VNEs.

Note No VNEs are displayed when a reserved AVM is selected. Reserved AVMs are AVMs 1-100.

Key	The unique key of the VNE.
IP Address	The IP address of the device as defined in Cisco ANA Manage.
Status	The status of the VNE: •Starting Up—The VNE is starting. •Up—The VNE is up. •Shutting Down—The VNE is stopping. •Down—The VNE is down. •Unreachable—The VNE cannot be reached.
Maintenance	Indicates whether or not the VNE is in maintenance mode: •True—The VNE is in maintenance mode. •False—The VNE is not in maintenance mode.
Up Since	The date and time that the VNE was last started.
SNMP	Indicates whether SNMP is enabled or disabled on the VNE: •True—SNMP is enabled. •False—SNMP is disabled.
Telnet	Indicates whether Telnet is enabled or disabled on the VNE: •True—Telnet is enabled. •False—Telnet is disabled.
Element Class	Detects the VNE category, such as Auto Detect, Generic SNMP, Cloud, or ICMP.
Element Type	The device type (manufacturer name), such as Cisco 7204.
Polling Group	The name of the customized polling group. The entry in this column is blank if the polling group is an instance.

Table 2-13 shows the toolbar options that are available when a VNE is selected in the workspace table.

Global Settings Branch

The Global Settings branch maintains system-wide settings, such as polling and protection groups. Any changes that are made to the settings affect the configuration throughout the system.

The Global Settings branch includes the following sub-branches:

•Client Licenses Sub-Branch

•DB Segments Sub-Branch

•Message of the Day Sub-Branch

•Polling Groups Sub-Branch

•Protection Groups Sub-Branch

Client Licenses Sub-Branch

The Client Licenses sub-branch enables control and monitoring of the number of client connections over a limited or unlimited period of time as defined in terms of the client license.

Note Upon installation, Cisco ANA provides one user, root. To authorize additional users, you must obtain and install license keys. To obtain a license key so that you can add users to Cisco ANA, contact your Cisco Account Manager. To activate the additional users for the licenses purchased, contact your Cisco Account Manager or Sales Representative.

Table 2-14 describes the columns in the Client Licenses workspace table.

Column	Description
Expiration Date	Date of the expiration of the license. The license can be for a limited or unlimited period of time.
License Type	The type of Cisco ANA license: •Fixed—Authorizes users to access Cisco ANA clients. The type of default license that comes with Cisco ANA is fixed and is limited to user root. •Floating—Authorizes a specific number of users to access Cisco ANA clients and BQL concurrently. Each user who logs into a Cisco ANA client (Cisco ANA Manage, Cisco ANA NetworkVision, or Cisco ANA EventVision) or BQL is counted as using a license. The total number of concurrent logins for all Cisco ANA clients and BQL is limited by the number of licenses. •Floating User—Authorizes a specific number of users to open one instance each of the Cisco ANA clients (Cisco ANA Manage, Cisco ANA NetworkVision, and Cisco ANA EventVision) concurrently. That is, one user can log into and work in concurrent sessions of Cisco ANA Manage, Cisco ANA NetworkVision, and Cisco ANA EventVision. If the same user opens more than one instance of the same client, each instance is counted as a separate license. For more information, see Managing Client Licenses, page 7-1.
License Users	The usernames or IP addresses of the authorized users.
Priority	Unavailable in this version.
User Count	The number of users allowed to operate the client applications, as defined in terms of the license. The exact number of users is displayed if the number is limited; 0 (zero) indicates an unlimited number of users.
Client Type	The applications to which the user is authorized to connect, such as BQL and client applications.
Creation Date	The date when the license was implemented.

DB Segments Sub-Branch

The DB Segments sub-branch in Cisco ANA Manage displays a table describing the storage allocated for all database segments.

Name	The name of the segment.
Type	The type of segment, such as INDEX PARTITION, TABLE PARTITION, TABLE, CLUSTER, INDEX, ROLLBACK, DEFERRED ROLLBACK, TEMPORARY, CACHE, LOBINDEX, LOB PARTITION, or LOBSEGMENT.
Tablespace Name	The name of the table space containing the segment.
Partition Count	The number of partitions.
Extent Count	The number of extents allocated to the segment.
Next Extent Size	The size, in bytes, of the next extent to be allocated to the segment.
Bytes	The size of the segment, in bytes.

Message of the Day Sub-Branch

The Message of the Day sub-branch enables you to define a message (service disclaimer) that is displayed when a user logs into client applications.

Polling Groups Sub-Branch

The Polling Groups sub-branch enables you to manage polling groups, by categorizing a group of devices to be polled according to preset intervals.

Protection Groups Sub-Branch

By default, all units in the Cisco ANA fabric belong to one cluster or protection group. The Protection Groups sub-branch enables you to change the default setup of the units by customizing protection groups and then assigning units to these protection groups.

Maintenance Links Branch

The Maintenance Links branch enables you to view all links currently in maintenance mode and remove links from maintenance mode. Click one of the hyperlinked entries in the Maintenance Links table to view the inventory window for that entry.

Scopes Branch

The Scopes branch enables you to group a collection of managed network elements so that users can view and manage the network elements based on the role granted to their user account for the scope. For more information on the Scopes branch, see Chapter 10, "Managing Security."

The Workflow Engine branch enables you to manage workflow templates and run workflows in runtime. The Workflow Engine branch includes the following sub-branches:

•Workflows—Displays a list of the running or completed workflows and enables you to view and alter their current status. See Workflows Sub-Branch.

Logging Out

When you have finished working with Cisco ANA Manage, you can log out of the application. Any changes that were made are automatically saved when you log out.

To log out of Cisco ANA Manage:

Step 1 Exit Cisco ANA Manage in one of the following ways:

•Choose File > Exit.

•Click the top right corner to close the Cisco ANA Manage window.

A confirmation message is displayed.

Step 2 Click Yes. The Cisco ANA Manage window is closed.
