Disabling RTP Flows
When you audit RTCP packets and flows through the media gateway controller (MGC), you can exclude the RTP statistics by using the rsb property of the gate management (GM) package (referred to elsewhere as rsb/gm). This action temporarily disables the RTP flow for a given termination. Property value control occurs at the MGC level, and not at the data border element (DBE) level.

Turning the gm/rsb property OFF or ON has no effect on other flow types; it affects only RTP flows.
Information About Disabling RTP Flows
gm/rsb ON
With this property setting, the DBE opens an RTCP port for each RTP flow, with the RTCP port number always one (1) number higher than the RTP port, with which it is associated. The DBE then reserves 5% in excess of the resources required for an RTF flow to process the RTCP stream.
Note
This is the default setting for the DBE.
gm/rsb OFF
OFF overrides the default behavior of the DBE in the following ways:
•
DBE does not open the RTCP port for any RTP flows nor can any other flows use the RTCP port.
•
DBE fails to reserve additional resources for processing the RTCP stream.
•
If you turn off RTCP behavior on one termination, it disables RTCP reports on the stream in both directions. This results, because the DBE does not generate its own RTCP reports, but rather passes the reports through that it receives from the endpoints.
•
Turning off RTCP behavior also prevents the DBE from reporting any of the statistics it gathers from snooping the RTCP reports. These are the statistics reported in the End-Point Statistics package.
Disabling RTP Flows
To confirm the state of the MGC gm/rsb setting, use the auditvalue {media} request for the termination.
Example:
gm/rsb settings LocalControl descriptor in Add request and MGC send Add request to
DBE.
