Introduction

Access Node Control Protocol (ANCP) is a Cisco IOS software feature set that provides a transport protocol that can be used to deliver information for any application, while remaining independent from the application. ANCP is used in the application between digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs) and the broadband remote access server (BRAS) in a DSL broadband environment.

ANCP enables close communication between DSL aggregation modems (for example, DSLAMs) and network edge devices. Using ANCP between DSLAMs and a BRAS enables the two ends to exchange events, actions, and information requests so that the appropriate actions occur on either end.

The Cisco IOS Access Node Control Protocol Command Reference describes the commands that can be used to configure ANCP functionality.

For more information about ANCP, including configuration procedures and examples, refer to the Cisco IOS Access Node Control Protocol Configuration Guide.
