ISDN Module
Feature Summary
The ISDN module ensures that the ISDN protocol stack functions properly while the D-channel information (Q.931 and the Q.921 frames) are transported over possibly multiple IP networks via UDP across links managed by the Redundant Link Manager (RLM). For more information about RLM, see the feature module .
List of Terms
CSC—Cisco Signaling Controller. A server which interfaces between the NAS and the SS7 signaling network.
NAS—Network Access Server. A Cisco platform (or collection of platforms such as an AccessPath TS or TS3 system, which interfaces between the packet world (for example, the Internet) and the circuit world (for example, the PSTN).
RLM—Redundant Link Manager.
Restrictions
Do not use this and other SS7 dial access solution commands if you are using a PRI interface.
Platforms
The following hardware platforms support this feature:
•
Cisco AS5800
•
Cisco AS5300
•
Cisco AS5200
•
Cisco AccessPath TS and TS3
Prerequisites
The rlm group should have already been configured. If not, see the feature module titled .
Supported MIBs and RFCs
None.
Functional Description
The SS7 dial access solution uses the ISDN Q.931 and Q.921 protocols over an RLM module. RLM makes use of the UDP protocol to transfer information from the NAS to the CSC and vice versa.
Configuration Tasks
None.
Command Reference
The isdn rlm-group command is added for this feature. All of those IP addresses associated with the redundant servers will be called an rlm-group. Multiple rlm-groups will be allowed in each NAS.
All other commands used with this feature are documented in the Cisco IOS Release 12.0 command references.
isdn rlm-group
The isdn rlm-group command allows RLM to be used as a way of transporting the D channel information (signaling) over Ethernet. Use this command to specify the rlm-group number that ISDN will start using. Use the no form of this command to disable this function.
