This document describes the features and caveats for Cisco IOS Release 11.1 AA, up to and including Release 11.1(20) AA5. Release 11.1(20) AA5 is a platform-specific software release that supports features for the Cisco 1600 series routers, Cisco 3600 series routers, and Cisco AS5200 access servers. This document supplements the Cisco IOS Release 11.1 documentation set.
Use these release notes in conjunction with the Release Notes for Cisco IOS Release 11.1. For a list of software caveats that apply to this release, refer to the "Caveats" section and to the Caveats for Release 11.1. This section describes the memory requirements of the Cisco IOS features sets for Release 11.1(20) AA4AA4.
The memory requirements for feature sets available in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(20) AA4 are the same as those listed in the "Memory Requirements" in each of the platforms' hardware documentation.

The Cisco 1600 and Cisco 3600 routers were introduced in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(7) AA.

Determining Your Software Release
To determine the version of Cisco IOS software currently running on your device, log in to the router or access server and use the show version EXEC command. The following is sample output from the show version command. The version number is indicated on the second line as shown below:

New Features in Cisco IOS Releases 11.1(20) AA4 Through 11.1(15) AA
There were no new features introduced in these releases.
New Features in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(14) AA
This software release supports the Cisco AS5200 access server microcom modem module, which can connect up to 33.6 Kbps.
New Features in Cisco IOS Releases 11.1(13) AA Through 11.1(9) AA
There were no new features introduced in these releases.
New Features in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(8) AA
This software release supports the NM-1E1R2W network module for Cisco 3600 routers.
New Features in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(7) AA
The following new features were added in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(7) AA:
•
Cisco 1600 series—Includes the Cisco 1601, Cisco 1602, Cisco 1603, and Cisco 1604 routers. The Cisco 1600 series is a family of modular access routers for small offices connecting Ethernet LANs to the Internet and corporate intranets over one or two WAN connections. Interfaces supported include 10BaseT, asynchronous and synchronous serial, synchronous serial with integrated 56-kbps CSU/DSU, ISDN BRI S/T, and ISDN BRI U.
•
Cisco 3600—Includes the Cisco 3640 and Cisco 3620 routers. As modular solutions, these routers enable corporations to increase dialup density and take advantage of various current and emerging WAN technologies and networking capabilities such as dialup connectivity, LAN-to-LAN routing, data and access security, WAN optimization, and multimedia features.
The Cisco 3640 is equipped with four network module slots. The Cisco 3620 has two slots. Each network module slot accepts a variety of network module interface cards, including LAN and WAN mixed media cards supporting Ethernet, Token Ring, and a variety of WAN technologies. These cards provide the foundation of LAN and WAN connectivity on a single network module. Additional applications are supported with a series of network module cards offering asynchronous and synchronous serial, ISDN PRI, and ISDN BRI interfaces.
•
Cisco AS5200 access server channelized T1 software enhancements include ground-start and loop-start support to the cas-group controller configuration command.
This software release supports the dual E1 PRI interface card for Cisco AS5200 access servers.

The Cisco IOS command listed below is new or modified, or has a special syntax or usage for Cisco A5200 access server. All other commands used with this server are documented in the Cisco IOS Release 11.2 command references.

New Features in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(6) AA
The following new features were added to Cisco IOS Release 11.1(6) AA:
•
Two channelized E1 controllers, each providing one physical interface to the network when running as a channelized interface card used to run ISDN PRI.
With this feature, you must configure E1 clocking using the clock source line primary command and the clock source line secondary command.

The show modem command now provides more detailed information about modem performance, status, connections, and version information about modem firmware, bootcode, and hardware.
•
The show controller t1 command now provides version information about T1 links.
Caveats
There are no caveats specific to Cisco IOS Release 11.1(20) AA.

CSCea02355
Cisco routers and switches running Cisco IOS software and configured to process Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) packets are vulnerable to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. A rare sequence of crafted IPv4 packets sent directly to the device may cause the input interface to stop processing traffic once the input queue is full. No authentication is required to process the inbound packet. Processing of IPv4 packets is enabled by default. Devices running only IP version 6 (IPv6) are not affected. A workaround is available.
Cisco has made software available, free of charge, to correct the problem.

Closed and Resolved Caveats—Release 11.1(20)AA3
This section describes caveats that have been closed and resolved in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(20)AA3.
•
Caveat CSCdr54230
A Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) UPDATE contains Network Layer Reachability Information (NLRI) and attributes that describe the path to the destination. Each path attribute is a type, length, value (TLV) object.
The type is a two-octet field that includes the attribute flags and the type code. The fourth high-order bit (bit 3) of the attribute flags is the Extended Length bit. It defines whether the attribute length is one octet (if set to 0) or two octets (if set to 1). The extended length bit is used only if the length of the attribute value is greater than 255 octets.
The AS_PATH (type code 2) is represented by a series of TLVs (or path segments). The path segment type indicates whether the content is an AS_SET or AS_SEQUENCE. The path segment length indicates the number of autonomous systems (ASes) in the segment. The path segment value contains the list of ASes (each AS is represented by two octets).
The total length of the attribute depends on the number of path segments and the number of ASes in them. For example, if the AS_PATH contains only an AS_SEQUENCE, then the maximum number of ASes (without having to use the extended length bit) is 126 [= (255-2)/2]. If the UPDATE is propagated across an AS boundary, then the local Abstract Syntax Notation (ASN) must be appended and the extended length bit used.
The caveat was caused by the mishandling of the operation during which the length of the attribute was truncated to only one octet. Because of the internal operation of the code, the receiving border router would not be affected, but its iBGP peers would detect the mismatch and issue a NOTIFICATION message (update malformed) to reset their session.
The average maximum AS_PATH length in the Internet is between 15 and 20 ASes, so there is no need to use the extended length. The failure was discovered because of a malfunction in the BGP implementation of another vendor. There is no workaround.
This caveat is resolved in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(20)AA3.
•
CSCds04747
Cisco IOS software contains a flaw that permits the successful prediction of TCP Initial Sequence Numbers.
This vulnerability is present in all released versions of Cisco IOS software running on Cisco routers and switches. It only affects the security of TCP connections that originate or terminate on the affected Cisco device itself; it does not apply to TCP traffic forwarded through the affected device in transit between two other hosts.
To remove the vulnerability, Cisco is offering free software upgrades for all affected platforms. The defect is described in DDTS record CSCds04747.
Workarounds are available that limit or deny successful exploitation of the vulnerability by filtering traffic containing forged IP source addresses at the perimeter of a network or directly on individual devices.

This caveat is resolved in Cisco IOS Release 11.1(20)AA3.

Feature modules describe new features supported by Release 11.1 AA and are an update to the Cisco IOS documentation set. As updates, the features modules are available online only.
