IEEE 802.1X Common Session IDLast Updated: July 17, 2012
The IEEE 802.1X Common Session ID feature allows a single session identifier to be used for all 802.1X and MAB authenticated sessions. This session ID is used for all reporting purposes such as show commands, MIBs, and RADIUS messages and allows users to distinguish messages for one session from messages for other sessions. Finding Feature InformationYour software release may not support all the features documented in this module. For the latest feature information and caveats, see the release notes for your platform and software release. To find information about the features documented in this module, and to see a list of the releases in which each feature is supported, see the Feature Information Table at the end of this document. Use Cisco Feature Navigator to find information about platform support and Cisco software image support. To access Cisco Feature Navigator, go to www.cisco.com/go/cfn. An account on Cisco.com is not required. Prerequisites for IEEE 802.1X Common Session IDThe following tasks must be completed before implementing the IEEE 802.1X Common Session ID feature:
The IEEE 802.1X Common Session ID feature is available only on Cisco 800, 870, 1800, 2800, and 3800 series integrated switching routers (ISRs) that support switch ports. The fixed-configuration Cisco 1800 series router platforms and the Cisco 870 series routers have integrated 4-port and 8-port switches: The following cards or modules support switch ports:
To determine whether your router has switch ports, use the show interfaces switchport command. Information About IEEE 802.1X Common Session IDIEEE 802.1X Common Session ID ReportingAuthentication manager uses a single session ID (referred to as a common session ID) for a client no matter which authentication method is used. This ID is used for all reporting purposes, such as the show commands and MIBs. The session ID appears with all per-session syslog messages. The session ID includes:
The session ID is used by the NAD, the AAA server, and other report-analyzing applications to identify the client. The ID appears automatically. No configuration is required. Examples for IEEE 802.1X Common Session ID

Feature Information for IEEE 802.1X Common Session IDThe following table provides release information about the feature or features described in this module. This table lists only the software release that introduced support for a given feature in a given software release train. Unless noted otherwise, subsequent releases of that software release train also support that feature.
