This preface describes who should read the Cisco Storage Array 12 Installation and Configuration Guide, how it is organized, and its document conventions.

Document Objectives
This guide provides instructions for the installation and configuration of the
Cisco Storage Array 12.
Audience
This publication is designed for the person installing the Cisco Storage Array 12, who should be familiar with electronic circuitry and wiring practices and have experience as an electronic or electromechanical technician. A knowledge of SCSI is preferable.

The major sections of this hardware installation and configuration guide are as follows:

Screen examples use the following conventions:

Variables for which you supply values are in italic screen font.

The symbol ^ represents the key labeled Control—for example, the key combination ^D in a screen display means hold down the Control key while you press the D key.

Nonprinting characters, such as passwords, are in angle brackets.

Default responses to system prompts are in square brackets.

|
An exclamation point (!) or a pound sign (#) at the beginning of a line of code indicates a comment line.

Timesaver Means the described action saves time. You can save time by performing the action described in the paragraph.
Caution Means
reader be careful. In this situation, you might do something that could result in equipment damage or loss of data.

Warning This warning symbol means danger. You are in a situation that could cause bodily injury. Before you work on any equipment, be aware of the hazards involved with electrical circuitry and be familiar with standard practices for preventing accidents. Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM is updated monthly. Therefore, it is probably more current than printed documentation. The CD-ROM package is available as a single unit or as an annual subscription.
