Cisco in the NHS

Cisco has a global focus on the Healthcare Sector and a UK Healthcare Team established in 1999. Since then there has been significant change in the Healthcare environment, and the NHS has become a more patient-led and joined-up organisation.

The vision of high quality care for all is enabled by the accelerated use of technology to transform NHS business and clinical practice. This vision is presented in key strategic documents from the Department of Health, including Our NHS, Our Future: The Next Stage Review and the Health Informatics Review.

Cisco has consistently recommended that the NHS adopt an architectural approach to networks. This will support the aims and ambitions of the National Programme as well as meeting the requirements of local NHS initiatives. Our recently announced Cisco Network Architecture Blueprint for the NHS (C-NAB) provides guidance and recommendations for delivering 21st century healthcare.

Cisco Solutions for Healthcare

Introduction
With the recent publication of the Cisco Network Architecture Blueprint for the NHS (C-NAB), Cisco established the relevance of technology to the business of the NHS. By first establishing a robust, scalable and secure foundation, NHS organisations can confidently set up advanced technology solutions to support their activities.
Clinical Collaboration
- COLLAPSE
Instant virtual healthcare meetings

Every day, business and clinical decisions need to be made quickly. Meetings called to make these decisions aren't always possible due to availability and time constraints. Virtual meetings, however, using either hosted or customer-owned solutions, provide a dynamic working environment where decisions can be reached instantly while making time, cost and carbon savings.
Wide-Area Application Services (WAAS)

Improving Remote Server Performance in Healthcare

A constant challenge for IT departments has been the need to distribute servers to remote sites in order to provide the best possible performance for users. This strategy has now reached the limits of scalability and there are two key questions that need to be addressed:
  • Can distributed servers be consolidated into central Data Centres?
  • If so, how can application performance for remote users be maintained without incurring high Wide Area Network costs?
Cisco solutions address these key areas along with the incremental challenges of providing data protection and compliance. By adopting a new approach, better performance and additional benefits can be gained.
Security

Information Security in Healthcare

Information security is a business concern for all organisations. In healthcare, that concern is magnified by the responsibility of securing person identifiable data (PID) as well as maintaining public trust in IT systems. With security threats increasing in number and sophistication, it is important to uphold protection, control and visibility over entire networks.

The Cisco Self Defending Network is a systems approach that enables security to be tightly integrated into the network.
