The recently-published National Security Strategy and the Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) stressed the increasing and changing nature of the security threat to our country and how we must, as a nation, invest to counter the threat of cyber attacks on citizens, business and Government.
The Government has signaled intent by allocating additional funding of £650 million in the SDSR to enable cyber threats to be better identified, understood and mitigated.
Cyber attacks represent a very particular security threats that use computer networks to propogate. They are characterised by severe business impact, global scale, speed of propagation and, often, by the distance between attacker and victim. Cisco, as a major multi-national business, faces cyber attacks to its global operations on a continual basis and works with customers worldwide to pro-actively defend against and mitigate the effects of these attacks.
We have created this cyber solutions paper to share a multi-layered approach to cyber defence with our Public Sector customers and partners. The paper provides practical, workable, relevant measures that we hope will inform security leads in Government, the wider Public Sector and Industry.
