Cisco puts ‘Network On Wheels’ to tap the SMB Segment in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, June 19, 2007 - Cisco Systems, the global leader in networking for the Internet, today announced aggressive plans to address the needs of the burgeoning Small and Medium Business (SMB) segment in Andhra Pradesh. The company unveiled ‘Network On Wheels’ (NOW), a mobile showcase of customized Cisco networking Solutions including advanced technologies such as Security, Wireless and Unified IP Communications aimed to tap into fast growing sectors like IT, biotechnology, pharma, auto and textiles.
As per an Access Markets International (AMI) Partners study there are an estimated 7.6 million SMBs in India. These SMBs are set to increase their IT spend by 24% in 2007 to a whopping US$8 billion to beef up their servers and networking technology. Further, networking technology forms the backbone of all IT & Telecom investments and is a key component of the overall expenditure for SMBs.
Speaking at the launch, Jagdish Mahapatra, Vice President, Commercial (West), Cisco India & SAARC said, “Hyderabad has been at the forefront of India’s IT revolution and this has helped increase awareness on how technology can be an effective driver for increasing operating efficiencies. But SMBs are yet to realize the implication of technology as a strategic business tool. The Cisco NOW program aims to address this awareness gap by showcasing a complete range of customized Cisco networking solutions for SMBs across technologies such as routing, switching, security, wireless, voice and video. It is amongst the largest marketing initiatives in India by Cisco and is a key pillar of its SMB strategy.”
Favorable business conditions have led to the rapid proliferation of regional clusters in the country. The state of Andhra Pradesh has particularly experienced rapid industrial growth especially in IT and pharma giving a boost to the industrial scene in cities like Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam and Vijayawada. The city of Hyderabad has particularly emerged as a hub for IT, Biotechnology, Pharma, Food and Agro-based businesses, Auto components, Textiles and Leather. Cisco will develop domain specific solutions to help SMB customers in each of these sub verticals that will help SMBs plan, design and operate business critical networks more efficiently.
Under the NOW program, Cisco has created a customized van with a live network environment on board. The ‘Network on Wheels’ van is a 25 foot mobile showcase equipped with the latest Cisco networking Solutions. The mobile van will visit strategic industrial locations across key tier I, II and III cities and host live demonstrations for more than 100 customers per city in the country. The Cisco NOW van will demonstrate for SMBs exciting interactive technology solutions designed to enhance their competitive advantage, maximize productivity and ROI, enhance customer care and loyalty, increase user satisfaction and reduce operation costs - ultimately driving business growth.
