Dubai Design District (d3) Awards Tenders to Cisco to provide Advisory and Consultancy Services and Technology Infrastructure for the Community’s Smart City Project

Cisco to Design and Implement a Cisco Data Virtualization Platform as well as a Cisco Smart and Connected City Infrastructure Management Layer for d3

Dubai, UAE – 1 March 2015 –Cisco announced today that it has been awarded the contract to provide advisory and consultancy-led services as well as a Data Virtualization Platform for Dubai Design District’s (d3) smart city project.

As part of the award, Cisco will provide an ICT Master Plan for the district and also build a Cisco Smart and Connected City Infrastructure Management layer. The objective of this being to assist d3 to meet its strategic and financial goals by leveraging innovative technology solutions and services designed to better resident’s quality of life and contribute to turning it into a signature smart city development.

d3 is the newest of TECOM Investments’ Free Zone business parks. With 11 buildings currently under construction, once complete, the site will become the home of the region’s design community. TECOM aims to assist in facilitating the ambition of making Dubai as ‘the smartest spot on earth’ as directed by The Executive Office (TEO) of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

As the greenfield site for the Smart City initiative, d3 expects to launch 130 ‘Smart Initiatives’ over the course of its development to facilitate its objective in fostering the growth of the Emirate's design, fashion and luxury industry. Providing businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals with a fully functional, purpose-built creative community the developer’s goal is to create the heart of the region's design scene.

The d3 smart city strategy will be built around the six dimensions of the Dubai Smart strategy - Economic, Environment, People, Living, Mobility and Governance - the framework for developing Dubai as the world’s smartest city.

  • Once complete, d3 will be a purpose built environment catering to the full vision of creating a world class creative community that engages nurtures and promotes local, regional and global design talent. d3's facilities will include everything from cutting-edge design institutes to residential, hospitality, retail and office space. The d3 community will be characterized by distinct public areas, unique street furniture and shaded walkways. The development will include in near future a Creek-side esplanade with international and boutique hotels, a pop-up shop area and amphitheater.
  • The Cisco Smart and Connected Communities initiative complements d3’s mission directly. It is designed to solve environmental challenges, redefine work models, improve the delivery of safety and security, drive energy efficiency and help people thrive in smart communities and live enriched, healthier lives.
  • Cisco’s ecosystem of partners, particularly the service delivery and operations partners will provide the industry-leading expertise required to help ensure the successful delivery of the two tenders as well as other Dubai smart cities projects.
