Upgrading Bridge Firmware
This appendix describes maintenance procedures for the Cisco Aironet Workgroup Bridge. You can upgrade the bridge's firmware using an Internet browser or Telnet.
Using an Internet Browser
Follow these steps to upgrade firmware using an Internet browser:
Step 1 Open an Internet browser on a computer that is on the same network as the bridge.
Step 2 Type or paste the bridge's IP address in the browser's location field. (If you are using Netscape, the field is labeled Netsite or Location; if you are using Microsoft Explorer, the field is labeled Address.) Press Enter.
Step 3 When the bridge's management home page appears, click Allow Config Changes in the upper-left corner.
Step 4 In the Diagnostics menu, click Load.
Step 5 If you know the path and filename of the new firmware file, enter them in the entry field. The path and filename might look like this:
If you don't know the path and filename of the new firmware file, click Browse and select the file from its directory.
Step 6 Click Send. The bridge loads the new firmware and reboots.
If an error message appears stating that the page cannot be refreshed without resending the information, click Cancel. The bridge will load the new firmware and you can ignore the message.
Step 7 To verify that the upgrade is successful, repeat Step 1 and Step 2. When the bridge's management home page appears, verify that the new firmware version number appears beside the model name in the upper-left corner of the page.
Using a Telnet Session
Follow these steps to upgrade firmware using a Telnet session:
Step 1 On your computer's Start menu, select Programs > Accessories > Telnet.
If Telnet is not listed in your Accessories menu, click Start > Run; type Telnet in the entry field, and press Enter.
Step 2 When the Telnet window appears, click Connect and select Remote System.
Note In Windows 2000, the Telnet window does not contain pull-down menus. To start the Telnet session in Windows 2000, type open followed by the bridge's IP address, and skip to Step 4.
Step 3 In the Host Name field, type the bridge's IP address provided by the IP Finder utility. Click Connect.
Step 4 Type 5 to select Diagnostics. In the Diagnostics menu, type 6 to select Load.
Step 5 In the Load menu, type 1 to select Ftp. In the FTP menu, type 4 to select Destination.
Step 6 Enter the name or the IP address of the FTP server where the firmware file is located and press Enter.
Step 7 Type 5 to select User Name. Type the username required by the FTP server where the firmware file is located.
Step 8 If a password is required to access the FTP server, type 6 to select Password. (If no password is required, skip to the next step.) Type the password and press Enter.
Step 9 Type 7 to select Filename. Enter the path and filename for the firmware file and press Enter.
Note Use forward slashes ( / ) instead of back slashes ( \ ) in the path and filename. In the bridge management system, the back slash functions as an escape character for entering hexadecimal values.
The path and filename you enter might look like the following example:
Step 10 Type 1 to select Get. The FTP session begins automatically, and the firmware is loaded. Your Telnet session ends when the bridge reboots.
Step 11 To check that the upgrade is successful, repeat Steps 1 through 3. When the bridge's main menu appears, verify that the new firmware version number appears beside the model name in the upper-left corner of the menu.
If the session is unsuccessful, make sure you entered the correct server name or IP address, user name, password, and path and filename for the firmware file.
