Permanently Attaching the Access Point Antennas

This document provides instructions for the professional installer (in China) to permanently secure the antennas attached to a Cisco Aironet 1500 series outdoor mesh access point (models: LAP1510 or LAP1505) with Loctite 262 adhesive to prevent removal of the antennas. The LAP1510 has two antenna connectors
(2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). The LAP1505 has one antenna connector (2.5 GHz).

Note China has a regulatory requirement that antennas attached to an access point must not be replaced by the customer after being installed by a professional installer.

A 0.5 ml (0.02 fl oz) capsule of Loctite 262 adhesive is provided to permanently attach the antennas or the antenna cables to the access point.

Note The adhesive cure time increases at lower temperatures and decreases at higher temperatures. Operating temperature range is 40 oC to 5 oC (104 oF to 41 oF).

Follow these guidelines when using the adhesive at 22 oC (72 oF):

2 minutes—work time allowed for you to install the antenna after applying the adhesive on the access point antenna connector.

30 minutes—partial cure time for the adhesive. Thirty minutes after you apply the adhesive and install the antenna, the partial curing of the adhesive is sufficient to prevent the removal of the antenna by hand.

24 hours—full cure time for the adhesive. Twenty four hours after you apply the adhesive, the antenna cannot be removed without permanent damage to the access point or the antenna.

Do not remove the cap until you are ready to apply the adhesive.

Apply adhesive to only one access point antenna connector at a time. Complete the entire process before going to the second connector.

Do Not Apply adhesive into the access point antenna connector opening or into the antenna or the antenna cable connector.

Opening the Adhesive Capsule

To open the adhesive capsule, follow these instructions:

Step 1 Ensure that the capsule contains Loctite 626 adhesive (see Figure 1).

Step 2 To remove the cap of the capsule use your thumb to push the cap until it is perpendicular to the capsule spout. Continue pushing until the cap breaks off the spout (see Figure 2).

Step 3 Place the large end of the cap onto the capsule spout (see Figure 3). Press the cap firmly on the spout until you feel capsule seal break.

Step 4 Remove the cap. The capsule is ready to apply adhesive on an access point N-Type antenna connector. Do not remove the cap until you are ready to apply the adhesive.

Securing the Antenna to the Access Point

Caution To prevent damage to the antenna, you must mount your access point in its final location before applying the adhesive.

Follow these steps to apply the adhesive to one antenna connector on the access point:

Step 1 If your antenna mounts separately from the access point, mount your antenna but do not connect the antenna cable to the access point.

Step 2 Choose an antenna connector (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).

Step 3 Remove the cap from the capsule and apply an ample coating of the adhesive around the threads of the access point N-Type antenna connector. You must ensure that all the connector threads are covered by the adhesive (see Figure 4). Do Not apply adhesive to more than one connector at a time.

Caution To prevent radio frequency signal problems, do not apply any adhesive into the connector opening or on the connector center conductors.

Caution To prevent radio frequency signal problems, do not apply adhesive into the antenna or the antenna cable connector.

Step 4 When you have verified that the adhesive covers all the threads, immediately attach the antenna or the antenna cable to the access point antenna connector.

Step 5 Place the cap on the capsule spout and push to close.

Step 6 If you are installing access point model LAP1510, repeat Steps 1 to 4 for the second access point antenna connector.

Disposing of the Empty Loctite 626 Container

You must follow your country's regulations regarding the proper disposal of the empty Loctite 626 adhesive container.
