Use these release notes with the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7960G and 7940G running SIP firmware release 8.9.

This firmware release is compatible with Cisco Unified Communications Manager releases 6.1 and 6.0, Cisco Unified CallManager releases 5.1, 5.0, 4.3, 4.2, 4.1, 4.0, and Cisco CallManager release 3.3.

Installation Notes

Before using the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7960G or 7940G (SIP) with Cisco CallManager release 3.3 or later, you must install the latest firmware on all Cisco Unified Communications Manager servers in the cluster.

To download and install the firmware for all versions of Cisco Unified Communications Manager, follow these steps:

Procedure


Step 1 Go to the following URL:

http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/pub/Redirect.x?mdfid=278875240

Step 2 Log in to the Tools and Resources Download page.

Step 3 Choose the IP Telephony folder by clicking +.

Step 4 Choose IP Phones > Cisco Unified IP Phones 7900 Series.

Step 5 Choose your phone type > Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Software.

Step 6 Choose 8.9(0) from the Latest Releases folder.

Step 7 To download the firmware for the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7960G and 7940G (SIP), select the following file and follow the prompts:

P0S3-08-9-00.cop



Note The following files are automatically installed when you run the P0S3-08-9-00.cop file: P0S3-08-9-00.loads, P003-08-9-00.sbn, P0S3-08-9-00.sb2, and P003-08-9-00.bin.

Step 1 To access the Bug Toolkit, go to http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/action.do?hdnAction=searchBugs.

Step 2 Log on with your Cisco.com user ID and password.

Step 3 To look for information about a specific problem, enter the bug ID number in the "Search for bug ID" field, then click Go.

Cable Specifications

The administrator guide states the handset connection uses the RJ-11 jack; however, the handset connection uses the RJ-9 jack.

The following cables are required to connect the Cisco SIP IP phone:

RJ-9 for the handset connection.

RJ-45 jack for the LAN connection (labeled "10/100 SW").

RJ-45 jack for a second 10Base-T compliant connection (labeled "10/100 PC").

48-volt power connector. The diameter of the center pin in the phone power jack (Switchcraft 712A) is .1 inches (2.5 mm). The center pin is positive (+) voltage. The miniature power plug required to mate with the power jack on the phone is a Switchcraft 760 or equivalent.

Cisco IP Phone 7960/40 Administrator Guide for SIP, Version 4.4

This section provides information about errors that are contained in the Cisco IP Phone 7960/40 Administrator Guide for SIP, Version 4.4 documentation.

The "Configuring Network Parameters Using a DHCP Server " section incorrectly states to use DHCP option 66 (TFTP server IP address). This is incorrect. Option 66 is the TFTP server name. Option 150 is the TFTP server address.
