Business Edition Application Note: Upgrading Cisco UC Virtualization Hypervisor
Overview
This document details the procedure for upgrading the Cisco UC Virtualization Hypervisor (VMware vSphere Hypervisor) that is used by Cisco Business Edition servers. The following table provides the links to additional information for each of the upgrades.
While VMware offers a number of different upgrade strategies for the vSphere Hypervisor, the following interactive update process is suitable for any Cisco Business Edition server deployment and can be carried out either locally or remotely.
Prerequisites
To carry out this upgrade process, you require the following:
HTTP access to the Business Edition Server Integrated Management Console (CIMC).
Access to the vSphere Hypervisor using the VMware vSphere client running on a Microsoft Windows operating system.
If upgrading the hypervisor remotely, ensure that sufficient bandwidth is available to download and upload the hypervisor install file (approximately 300 MB).
Download the custom Cisco ESXi Virtualization Hypervisor installation ISO package from your Cisco Electronic software delivery account (edelivery.cisco.com/esd). Alternatively, register for a free My VMware account to access software from the following URLs:
ESXi 5.1U1: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=CISCO-ESXI-5.1.0U2&productId=285
ESXi 5.5U1: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=OEM-ESXI55U1-CISCO&productId=353
NoteAs common licenses are used for ESXi 5.x software releases, you do not have to upgrade licenses when upgrading between ESXi 5.0, ESXi 5.1, or ESXi 5.5.
