Switching Modes and Selecting Devices

Desk-Phone Mode and Softphone Mode

Your conversation pane can work with a Cisco Unified IP Phone, or work independently as a softphone. You can switch your conversation pane to work in desk-phone mode or in softphone mode.

If the phone mode is set to softphone, you can use your desk phone, but calls that you place with your desk phone do not display in the conversation history.

The following features are available in softphone mode only:

  • Transferring a call to an alternative device.

  • Displaying the new voice message indicator on the conversation pane.

  • Muting the active call.

  • Adjusting the volume of incoming sound.
