Streaming full screen QuickTime video with an MCU

How do I stream full screen QuickTime video with a Cisco TelePresence MCU?

The steps required depend on whether you are looking to use unicast or multicast streaming. Please read the appropriate section.

Unicast streaming instructions

  1. Log into the web interface of your MCU and go to the Participants page of the conference that you want to stream. You will see 2 square buttons at the top right of the page (under the Events and Help links) - one with a block of text icon and the other with an information icon.
  2. Click the left-hand icon (the block of text). A pop-up displays containing, among other things, URLs for streaming to your player application.
For example, to stream this conference directly to your default player, connect to:

    rtsp://a.b.c.d/conf_h263_g711u_192000__Conference1
    for 192k, G.711mu audio, H.263 video,
    or:
    rtsp://a.b.c.d/conf_h263_g711u_768000__Conference
    for 768k, G.711mu audio, H.263 video

where a.b.c.d is the IP address of your MCU.
  3. Open QuickTime as a standalone application and paste in one of these URLs, then you can watch full screen.

Multicast streaming instructions

  1. Log into the web interface of your MCU.
  2. Go to Settings > Streaming and enable Multicast streaming for QuickTime player as you would normally do.
  3. Go to the particular conference and click Configuration. Set the Streaming option to Multicast.
  4. Go back to conference page and now click Watch or the Streaming icon to start streaming the conference.
  5. Select the streaming configuration you previously set up under Settings > Streaming from the list of streaming rates. Start streaming.
  6. On the streaming webpage, click View page source. On this page, you should find the following link:

    "conference_multicast.sdp?name={your_conference_name}&rate;=g711u_h263_1536000" (or similar)
  7. Now start your QuickTime player and go to the equivalent URL (substuting the correct values between {}:

    http://{ip_address}/conference_multicast.sdp?name={your_conference_name}&rate;=g711u_h263_1536000

You have to have multicast streaming options correctly set on your PC for these instructions to work and your network needs to be configured for multicast streaming.
