Installing Plastic Motherboard Insulator in an MGX 8850 System
Installing Backplane Plastic Insulating Cover
Use the following procedure to install the insulating cover over a system's backplane. This procedure may be done without powering down the system.
Step 1 Open the plastic grill on the front side of the intake plenum, located directly underneath the card cage or the fan space, using a flat blade screw driver to loosen the two recessed screws. Tilt the plastic grill forward about 45 degrees, then lift out and set it aside.
Step 2 Hold the plastic cover, shown in the drawing below, so that the 16 short tabs are facing towards you.
Step 3 The next illustration shows the clear plastic backplane cover viewed from the bottom toward the top of the cabinet.
Step 4 Slide the clear plastic backplane cover underneath the card cage and toward the bottom of the backplane; the flange with the 3 tabs and 2 cutouts will face the backplane.
Step 5 Align the two cutouts on the plastic cover with the two sheetmetal flanges located directly behind the backplane. Make sure the three tabs on the plastic cover are hooked inside the sheet metal flange.
Warning A high-energy hazard exist in the system while it is running. Be careful not to let your fingers or thumb touch the motherboard. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry, such as rings, bracelets, or chains while performing this installation.
Step 6 Press the center of the plastic cover to snap the tabs into the card cage perforations as shown in the illustration below. Keep the plastic cover between your fingers and the motherboard.
Step 7 Continue to press the plastic cover starting from the center then moving to each outside edge to snap the remaining tabs. You should be able to hear an audible click as these tabs are snapped into place.
Step 8 Replace the plastic grill removed in Step 1 and secure with the two screws using a flat blade screw driver.
This completes the installation of the plastic insulating cover.
