56K Statement

The Cisco AS5400 56K modem cards can send data at a rate up to 56 kbps and receive data at a rate up to 33.6 kbps. However, the actual speed that you can achieve with the card depends on the condition of your local telephone network.

Actual speeds vary depending on line conditions. Due to FCC limitations, speeds in the United States are less than 56 kbps.

Maintaining Safe Installation Distances

Except at the edge connector that plugs into the host chassis expansion slot, clearance and creepage distances of x millimeters (mm) and y mm as listed in Table 1 must be maintained between the cards and other parts of the host, including any other expansion cards fitted.

The larger dimensions, in parentheses, must be applied when the equipment is installed in an environment in which dust and other types of pollution could conduct electricity because of the effects of dampness and condensation. This applies to locations subject to high humidity.

Clearance distances are defined as the minimum distance measured in air between two points (that is, line of sight).

Creepage distances are defined as the minimum distance measured across the surface of an insulator between two points (that is, following the contour of the insulator).

Creepage and clearance distances are measured between adjacent parts as shown in Figure 1.

Note that in Figure 1, "x" indicates the clearance distances between cards and adjacent cards and components, and "y" shows the creepage path across the surface of an insulator and between the two points indicated by "x."

Statement 23—ISDN Connection Warning

Warning	The ISDN connection is regarded as a source of voltage that should be inaccessible to user contact. Do not attempt to tamper with or open any public telephone operator (PTO)-provided equipment or connection hardware. Any hardwired connection (other than by a nonremovable, connect-one-time-only plug) must be made only by PTO staff or suitably trained engineers.

Warning	Before working on equipment that is connected to power lines, remove jewelry (including rings, necklaces, and watches). Metal objects will heat up when connected to power and ground and can cause serious burns or weld the metal object to the terminals.

Warning	The illustration shows the DC power supply terminal block. Wire the DC power supply using the appropriate wire terminations at the wiring end, as illustrated. The proper wiring sequence is ground to ground, positive to positive (line to L), and negative to negative (neutral to N). Note that the ground wire should always be connected first and disconnected last.

The customer equipment has circuitry that may have telecommunications network voltages on them.

If the Cisco AS5400, Cisco AS5400HPX, or Cisco AS5400XM system disrupts the telephone network, the telephone company can discontinue your service temporarily. If possible, the telephone company will notify you in advance. If advance notice is not practical, they will notify you as soon as possible. You are also informed of your right to file a complaint with the FCC.

5. Telephone Company Facility Changes

The telephone company can make changes in its facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures that can affect the operation of your equipment. If they do, you should be notified in advance so you have an opportunity to maintain uninterrupted telephone service.

6. Electrical Safety Advisory

While the Cisco AS5400, Cisco AS5400HPX, and Cisco AS5400XM systems are fully compliant with FCC rules and regulations. It is recommended that an alternating current (AC) surge arrestor of the form and capability suitable for the model purchased be installed in the AC outlet to which the Cisco AS5400, Cisco AS5400HPX, or Cisco AS5400XM system is connected. Consult with your distributor as to the surge protector requirements for your equipment.

7. Terminal Attachments

The Cisco AS5400, Cisco AS5400HPX, and Cisco AS5400XM systems with the interface cards AS535-DFC-2CT1, AS535-DFC-4CT1, and AS54-DFC-8CT1 bearing labeling identification number 5B1USA-34966-DD-T complies with the Federal Communications Commission's ("FCC") Rules and Regulations 47 CFR Part 68, and the Administrative Council on Terminal Attachments ("ACTA") adopted technical criteria: TIA/EIA/IS-968, Technical Criteria for Terminal Equipment to Prevent Harms to the Telephone Network, July 2001. Canada

The channelized T3 trunk card meets Canadian requirements for T3 support as specified in CP-01 standards.

Industry Canada Compliance

The following are notices required by Industry Canada Terminal Attachment Program Certification Procedure CP-01, Part I, Section 14.

Equipment Attachment Limitations

The Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets certain telecommunications network protective operational and safety requirements. The Department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user's satisfaction.

Before installing the equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. In some cases, the company's inside wiring associated with a single line individual service may be extended by means of a certified connector assembly (telephone extension cord). The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.

Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorized Canadian maintenance facility designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.

Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas.

Australia

This customer equipment is to be installed and maintained by service personnel as defined by AS/NZ3260 clause 1.2.14.3 Service Personnel. Incorrect connection of connected equipment to the General Purpose Outlet could result in a hazardous situation.

Safety requirements are not fulfilled unless the equipment is connected to a wall socket outlet with protective earth contact.

Europe (EU)

This apparatus complies with EN55022 Class B and EN55024 standards when used as ITE/TTE equipment, and EN 300 386-2 (with EN55022 class B non-central office equipment) for Telecommunications Network Equipment (TNE).

The channelized E1 trunk card meets United Kingdom (UK) requirements for E1 support as specified in 607122 standards.

E1 Dial Feature Card Independent of Host

The Cisco Systems E1 dial feature card (DFC) is a chassis-mounted processor/interface card for use within a range of data communication (gateway and router) chassis supplied by Cisco Systems. The Cisco Systems E1 DFC is a self-contained product that provides all of the hardware and software necessary to allow connection of the Cisco AS5400, Cisco AS5400HPX, and Cisco AS5400XM to structured digital leased line circuits (point to point) using CTR12 operating at 2 Mbps. The card can also be used on an open structured leased line; however, the framing cannot be disabled. The Cisco Systems E1 DFC is also ICTR4-compliant for use on Primary Rate ISDN circuits operating at 2 Mbps. The Cisco Systems E1 DFC is fully transportable between compatible host chassis. The choice of each compatible chassis has no effect on capabilities, functionality, or performance of the Cisco Systems E1 DFC.

Directives Compliance

This equipment complies with the following European Directives: 89/336/EEC (electromagnetic compatibility), 73/23/EEC (low voltage), and 92/59/EEC (general product safety). The CE marking (see Figure 3) signifies that this product meets the telecommunications directive 91/263/EEC.

Definitions of Service Request Severity

To ensure that all service requests are reported in a standard format, Cisco has established severity definitions.

Severity 1 (S1)—Your network is "down," or there is a critical impact to your business operations. You and Cisco will commit all necessary resources around the clock to resolve the situation.

Severity 2 (S2)—Operation of an existing network is severely degraded, or significant aspects of your business operation are negatively affected by inadequate performance of Cisco products. You and Cisco will commit full-time resources during normal business hours to resolve the situation.

Severity 3 (S3)—Operational performance of your network is impaired, but most business operations remain functional. You and Cisco will commit resources during normal business hours to restore service to satisfactory levels.

Severity 4 (S4)—You require information or assistance with Cisco product capabilities, installation, or configuration. There is little or no effect on your business operations.
