Release Notes for the Cisco Voice Services Provisioning Tool Release 2.6(1)

This document contains release information for the Cisco Voice Services Provisioning Tool (VSPT) Release 2.6(1) software.

For more information on the Cisco VSPT software, please visit Cisco's website at

http://www.cisco.com > Software Center > Network Management > Voice Services Provisioning Tool

or

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/vspt

VSPT helps you create configuration files across multiple devices including the Cisco PGW 2200 and BAMS. It provides a GUI for the batch and interactive provisioning of the various features of the PGW 2200 host. Each release of VSPT supports a specific release of the PGW 2200.

VSPT can help you avoid common errors that might arise if devices are provisioned independently. This package eliminates the need to enter duplicate data and enables you to deploy configurations to and export configurations from the PGW 2200.

It also generates the configuration files you need to provision the PGW 2200, including the provisioning information associated with the following items:

Signaling

Trunk groups

Trunks

Routes

External nodes

System

Dial plans

New Features

The features discussed in the following sections have been added for Release 2.6(1).

Call Limiting

The Call Limiting feature allows you to limit the number of calls originating from or ending at a particular VoIP destination. This includes calls made to a certain SIP device, an H.323 device, or a route to DPNSS/Q.SIG/PRI gateways as well as another PGW or HSI using E-ISUP.

Call limiting allows the service providers to improve the Quality of Service (QoS) by planning the IP network better. Because the number of calls that can be made at one time is limited, bandwidth is available for each call.

This feature is also useful for those devices that support a limited number of calls, for example, an IP-based announcement machine. Once the set limit for the device is reached, PGW can select a route to another IP-based announcement machine.

Call Limiting is implemented by use of the Location Label field in VSPT.

Call Limiting is done by providing a Location Label along with the call limiting value associated with the location label.

Location labels can be created from the Location Label component on the left pane of the VSPT graphic user interface.

For more information on how to use the Location Label component to limit calls, see the Cisco Media Gateway Controller Software Release 9 Provisioning Guide.

Call Back and Extension Status

The Call Back and Extension Polling feature is provided to support the inter-working between PGW and Cisco Call Manager for the DPNSS Call Back When Free (CBWF), Call Back When Next Used (CBWNU), and Extension Status supplementary service features.

The CBWF feature provides a method for a user to request an automatic callback when the extension being called is busy, or there is network congestion.

The calling user can register this feature with the PBX—where the call originated—to monitor the called extension. When the called extension or the network becomes free, the PBX notifies the user through visual and audio signals.

The CBWNU feature provides a method for the user to request a notification when the called extension is next used. This happens when the user has called an extension in the network and has received no reply.

The user then enables the feature at the PBX where the call originated. The user is notified automatically when the requested extension is next used.

The Extension Status (ES) feature is used to determine the state of an extension on a private network. The feature enables you to determine the status of the extension (free, busy, out of service, call waiting on, call forward all on) without calling the extension.

For more information on how to use the Call Back and Extension Status Polling feature, see the Cisco Media Gateway Controller Software Release 9 Provisioning Guide.

VSPT Timeout

PGW by default, allows only one provisioning session at a time. VSPT accomplishes multiuser provisioning by placing a provisioning attempt on hold if another session is already in progress.

After a 45-second timeout, VSPT retries the operation. This is repeated up to three times.

Time out entries and retry values are specified in the configEditor.properties file located at

VSPT_INSTALL_DIR/classes/com/cisco/transpath/dart/editor

To change the default settings, modify the following lines:

Deploy.Retry=3
Deploy.WaitPOM=45

In the case of large and complex installations, the default timeout of 3 minutes for import or export is not adequate. In such cases, VSPT allows you to change the default timeout value in the configEditor.properties file.

To change the default timeout value for import or export, modify the following line:

DefaultTimeout=3

Troubleshooting

The X Windows DISPLAY environment variable must be set in order for you to install the Cisco VSPT.

During installation, the X Windows DISPLAY environment variable must be set properly. If this variable is not set properly, the installation program exits with a Java error message or simply appears to stop responding. Use the following examples to set your X Windows DISPLAY environment variable. Replace the value <hostname> with your machine's hostname:

In csh or tcsh:

setenv DISPLAY <hostname>:0

In sh or ksh:

DISPLAY=<hostname>:0 ; export $DISPLAY

If you experience problems or errors deploying to or communicating with a remote machine, check the following points:

Ensure that the machine is active and responding to the ping command.

Ensure that correct login/passwords have been specified.

If you experience errors when deploying to the PGW 2200, check the following points:

The PGW 2200 supports only one provisioning session at a time. When deploying to the PGW 2200, ensure that no other provisioning sessions are active.

When you are activating a configuration on the PGW 2200, the PGW 2200 might require that some signaling components be taken out of service before the configuration is activated. If you do not take the components out of service, you receive an MML error message. You can take the components out of service from MML manually, and after that you can activate the configuration.

Enter the following command to determine where Cisco VSPT is installed:
/usr/bin/pkgparam _DART_PKG_NAME_ BASEDIR

CSCOvsp stores configuration files in the /var/<install directory>/data directory. Each _DART_PKG_NAME_ configuration is stored in a separate directory; the directory name is the same as the configuration name.

In the examples below, the assumption is that CSCOvsp16 was installed in the directory /opt/CSCOvsp16, thus = /opt/CSCOvsp16.

To rename a configuration, simply rename the directory under /var/opt/_DART_PKG_NAME_/data.

To remove a configuration, remove the directory under /var/opt/_DART_PKG_NAME_/data.

To determine where the data directory is located, search for DartStoreDir in the configEditor.properties file:

/usr/bin/grep DartStoreDir /opt/_DART_PKG_NAME_/classes/com/cisco/transpath/dart/editor/configEditor.properties

As a safety precaution, the deinstallation procedure does not remove configuration data. The data must be removed manually.
