Read Me First—LAN Management Solution, Release 1.1, March Update
LAN Management Solution (LMS) Release 1.1 provides updates to the LMS component applications. Your path for installing these updates may vary depending on the LMS components you have previously installed. If you are planning to install one of the LMS components for the first time, we recommend that you use the version on the CD-ROM in this kit, and read the requirements for that component carefully before you begin.
Statement of Use
This release of LMS contains product CDs for both Windows and Solaris. The CDs are provided to you as a convenience in deploying LMS on the operating system of your choice. Your purchase authorizes you to use LMS in a single installation. You are authorized to install each LMS component (Essentials, Campus Manager, and so on) on one server. If you must distribute components to other servers to meet application-specific or server-performance requirements, you are authorized to install additional instances of CD One to host them. To install multiple instances of the LMS components, including backup systems, you must purchase additional copies of the complete LMS product.
What the Bundle Contains
•CiscoWorks2000 CD One, 4th Edition (CD One)—CiscoWorks2000 Server and CiscoView 5.3 provide common web services and support for third-party network management solutions as well as real-time views of networked Cisco Systems devices (a CD One update CD provides enhancements to Java, a technology used through out the applications in this solution).
•Resource Management Essentials 3.3 (Essentials)—Web-enabled administration tool for simplifying the device software and configuration management of Cisco routers and switches.
•Campus Manager 3.1 (Campus)—Web-based suite of network management tools that enables administrators to obtain graphical views of network topology and end-user information.
•NetScout nGenius Real-Time Monitor 1.3 (RTM)—Web-based system designed to manage and monitor the packets, application and protocol traffic in the network. It provides tools for troubleshooting and monitoring traffic thresholds. This client-server network management solution is offered to Cisco Systems customers in cooperation with NetScout Systems, Inc.
Note In addition to the enclosed paper documents, PDF versions of product documentation are available on the product CDs. Refer to the installation instructions for individual products and print out the relevant documentation before proceeding with the installation. You can also order printed copies of documentation using the sources in "Ordering Additional Documentation" on page 12.
This section highlights updates for each component of this LMS release. See the accompanying release notes for more detailed information.
All LMS applications are now supported on Windows NT, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Professional, and Solaris 2.6 or 2.7.
CiscoWorks2000 CD One, 4th Edition
CiscoWorks2000 Server provides the following new features:
•Enhanced installation and runtime system security.
•Improved performance for navigating between applications.
•Improved responsiveness of data collection processes.
•Full support for the English and Japanese versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer.
•Support for discovery of Cisco Voice Applications and Servers.
•Choice of same-server or existing-to-new server upgrades. Both preserve existing network data and user preferences.
•Support for several new Cisco devices, Cisco IOS extended features, and selected Cisco voice applications.
• A patch CD for addressing Java issues used to transfer screens to browsers.
CiscoView 5.3 provides the following new features:
•Web-based Package Support Updater for scheduled and on-demand device support downloads from Cisco.com.
•Device list import for rapid loading and subsequent access to devices.
•Remote upgrade of user preferences and device packages from previous versions of CiscoView.
•New progress indicator providing status feedback on task execution.
•Performance improvements in the Monitor and Configuration menus.
•Package enhancements for several Cisco products, including Rtr2500(1.3), Rtr7000(7.0), Rtr3600(7.0), Rtr2600(7.0), Cat4000(1.5), Cat5000(1.4), Cat5500(1.4), Cat2900XL(2.1), Cat3500XL(3.1), AS5350(1.0), AS5300(4.0), AS5800(5.0), IAD2400(1.0), URM(1.0), ubr7200(4.0).
Resource Manager Essentials 3.3
Resource Manager Essentials (Essentials) now supports new devices (see "Supported Devices" in the release notes) and inventory reports, including:
•The Serial Number report, which displays information about the devices in a selected view that have user-entered or discoverable serial numbers.
•The Service Assurance Agent (SAA) report, which displays information about devices running versions of IOS that support SAA (SAA is an IOS feature that measures Round Trip Response time).
Resource Manager Essentials' Syslog Analysis now supports messages coming from the WorkFlow application on Cisco Media Convergence servers.
Campus Manager 3.1
Campus Manager (Campus) now supports two additional applications:
•VLAN Port Assignment allows you to view device, port, and related VLAN information, and configure static VLAN ports. VLAN Port Assignment can be started from the CiscoWorks2000 desktop or from Topology Services.
•Discrepancy Reports is now a separate application that you can start from the desktop. Use Discrepancy Reports to view Physical or Logical Discrepancies in your network.
Campus also offers the following enhancements:
•Better performance by all its major applications.
•You can now start Cisco Customer Response administration tools (such as Cisco CallManager) from User Tracking and Topology Services.
•User Tracking and Path Analysis now support Voice VLANs.
•User Tracking now supports up to 40,000 user/end station entries.
•All Campus applications support VTP server independence.
•Support for Visio export of network topology views.
•Support for IGX devices, Catalyst 4000 VLANs, Catalyst 6000 devices running IOS, Catalyst 6500 Voice Gateway Modules, ICS7750, Cisco Call Manager 3.0(6), Media Convergence Servers, and Cisco Customer Response application servers.
NetScout nGenius Real-Time Monitor 1.3
NetScout nGenius Real-Time Monitor (RTM) is a new web-based client-server network management solution offered to Cisco Systems customers in cooperation with NetScout Systems, Inc. RTM provides traffic monitoring and troubleshooting for Cisco Network Analysis Modules (NAM) and a wide range of NetScout LAN and WAN probes and Cisco Catalyst switches running mini-RMON. RTM also:
•Offers a TrafficDirector replacement option. In this role, RTM provides linkage and launch capability from the CiscoWorks2000 desktop and uses the CiscoWorks2000 navigational model and browser support.
•Monitors voice and VPN traffic for GRE, IPSec, Voice over IP, and Voice over Frame Relay protocols.
•Allows import of device information from TrafficDirector or Resource Manager Essentials, permitting a consistent view of the network and a minimum of redundant processes.
•Allows for local or remote installation with other CiscoWorks2000 solutions or an existing TrafficDirector installation.
•Includes device support for most Cisco devices, including those supported in TrafficDirector releases 5.5 through 5.8.2.
•Offers support for CatOS 5.5 and 6.1, Catalyst 5000 and enhanced Catalyst 6000 NAM (41 protocol domains).
Table 1 and Table 2 summarize the minimum server and client requirements for installing LMS. The requirements listed are based on managing 500 devices, with all applications hosted on a single server.
If your LMS applications are distributed on multiple servers or you have chosen not to install some of them, the minimum requirements may be less than those given in these tables. If you are managing more than 500 devices or you are running additional Cisco or third-party applications on the servers, the requirements may be higher. Refer to the individual LMS application installation guides for specific product requirements.
Note You can upgrade the product before or after you upgrade the operating system. However, if you upgrade the product first, you will not see operating system patch-related or Service Pack-related warnings provided as part of the LMS installer.

Installing the Bundle
Table 3 shows the recommended order in which you should install the LMS software.
Note You must install CD One before installing any other applications. While it is strongly recommended that you follow the order of installation described in this section, you can install the remaining applications in any order.
You must complete the following tasks before starting up LMS.
