Navigating Cisco Prime CiscoView Tasks in LMS 4.2


Cisco Prime CiscoView is a Web-based device-management application that provides dynamic status, monitoring, and configuration for a broad range of Cisco devices. Cisco Prime CiscoView aides network management by graphically displaying physical views of Cisco devices, with color-coded modules and ports for at-a-glance performance and status monitoring. Configuration capabilities allow comprehensive changes to devices, when requisite security privileges are granted.

This chapter provides mapping of CiscoView tasks in Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.

Description

Setting Debugging Options and Display Logs

CiscoWorks LMS Portal > CiscoView > Administration > Debug Options And Display Log

Admin > System: Debug Settings > CiscoView Debug Options and Display Log

You can set SNMP and activity trace and/or view the trace log. This option records trace information in the cv.log file, which is located at %NMSROOT%/MDC/tomcat, where %NMSROOT% is the directory in which CiscoView is installed.

Setting Preferences

Either:

CiscoWorks LMS Portal > CiscoView > Administration > Device Preferences

Or

Click Preferences from the Options bar

Inventory > Tools: CiscoView

You can set the device preferences such as Device Display Name, SNMP Timeout and Retry count, Chassis Polling Frequency, Show MIB Label, add the Default Refresh Rate for Monitor Dialogs.

The System Configuration page appears when you enter the device name or select the device from the device selector.

You can change the settings for the following:

Host Name

Contact

Location

RMON

System Uptime

Setting up Alarm Thresholds

CiscoWorks LMS Portal > CiscoView > Mini-RMON Manager > Setup > Alarms

Inventory > Tools: Mini-RMON > Setup > Alarms

Allows you to view the Latest Alarm Events and Alarm Events log. An Alarm Event is triggered when an Alarm Threshold is breached.

You can create, modify and delete Alarms.

Setting Up Statistics Collection on Ethernet Ports

Inventory > Tools: Mini-RMON > Setup > Statistics Collection

You can enable or disable statistics collection on port.

Setting Up Statistics History Collection on Ethernet Ports

Inventory > Tools: Mini-RMON > Setup > Statistics History

You can create, modify and delete a statistics history collection on Ethernet ports.

Alarms Tasks

Viewing Latest Alarm Events

CiscoWorks LMS Portal > CiscoView > Mini-RMON Manager > Alarms > Latest Alarm Events

Inventory > Tools: Mini-RMON > Alarms > Latest Alarm Events

Allows you to view Latest Alarm Events. An Alarm Event's corresponding Alarm Threshold details can also be viewed.

Viewing all the Logged Alarm Events

CiscoWorks LMS Portal > CiscoView > Mini-RMON Manager > Alarms > Logged Alarm Events

Inventory > Tools: Mini-RMON > Alarms > Logged Alarm Events

Allows you to view all the Logged Alarm Events. An Alarm Event's corresponding Alarm Threshold details can also be viewed.

Viewing the logged Alarm Events corresponding to an Alarm

CiscoWorks LMS Portal > CiscoView > Mini-RMON Manager > Alarms > Alarm Thresholds to Events Mapping

Inventory > Tools: Mini-RMON > Alarms > Alarm Thresholds to Events Mapping

Allows you to view the logged Alarm Events corresponding to an Alarm.

Statistics Tasks

Viewing real time statistics

CiscoWorks LMS Portal > CiscoView > Mini-RMON Manager > Statistics > Current

Inventory > Tools: Mini-RMON > Statistics > Current

Allows you to view real time statistics for each monitored interface on this device. The statistics include packets dropped, packets sent, bytes sent, broadcast packets, multicast packets, CRC errors, oversized packets, undersized packets, fragments, jabbers, collisions, and packet distribution based on size. These statistics can be viewed as graphs.

Viewing the traffic statistics history

CiscoWorks LMS Portal > CiscoView > Mini-RMON Manager > Statistics > History

Inventory > Tools: Mini-RMON > Statistics > History

Allows you to view the traffic statistics history for a monitored interface on this device. The statistics include packets dropped, packets sent, bytes sent, broadcast packets, multicast packets, CRC errors, oversized packets, undersized packets, fragments, jabbers, and collisions.
