Auto Device Support Feature:

LMS has Auto Device Support feature that is run as part of the Inventory, Config and Image management discovery process, when the device discovery fails for a device.

If the device belongs to a device family that is already supported by LMS, the Auto Device Support feature queries for ciscoImageString.3 and maps the support to the already supported sysObjectID of the same family. After this mapping, the device is discovered in LMS. This feature works on both Windows and Solaris platforms.

Note:

  • If Auto Dev is run as a part of the Inventory, Config and Image management process it is classified as "ICI"
  • If run as a part of Network Topology Services, the devices are classified as "TS"

Note the following points while using the Auto Device Support feature:

1) The Auto Device Support feature can discover only the devices that belong to the device models or device families that are already supported by LMS. If a new device from an unsupported model is discovered, it will be moved to Generic device support with basic inventory features.

2)Auto Inventory, Config, Image management - Inventory, Config and Image management related features are the only supported for these devices. Other advanced features like Energywise/Auto Smartports/Medianet/SmartInstall does not support.

3)Auto Topology Services – Network Topology Layer 2 Services, User Tracking , VLAN Management related features are the only supported for these devices. Other features like VRF Lite, LANE Management does not support .

Note: EW-3 denotes EnergyWise Phase-3 in IOS and EW-2 denotes EnergyWise Phase-2 in IOS
