Description

The LMS 2.6 Update is a bundle update that contains incremental versions to more than one component of the LMS 2.5.1 bundle.

It is provided as a single installable CD-ROM and contains:

CiscoWorks Common Services 3.0.5: Includes CS 3.0.4, which is an incremental release over CS 3.0.3.

Resource Manager Essentials 4.0.5: Includes RME 4.0.4, which is an incremental release over RME 4.0.3.

Campus Manager 4.0.6: Includes CM 4.0.4 and CM 4.0.5, which are incremental releases over CM 4.0.3.

Device Fault Manager 2.0.6: Includes DFM 2.0.4 and DFM 2.0.5, which are incremental releases over DFM 2.0.3.

CiscoView 6.1.5: Includes CV 6.1.4, which is an incremental release over CV 6.1.2.

There is no update for Internetwork Performance Monitor 2.6.

New Features in LMS 2.6 Update

CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update provides support for:

The following are the new features in CS 3.0.5:

Common Services Home: The Common Services Home serves as the dashboard for the Common Services application.

The Common Services Home provides the launch points and top-level navigation for major functions in the Common Services application, and the status summary of jobs in the application.

New Device Selector: Enhanced Device Selector with Search and Advance Search options.

Integration of DCR and Device Center with the new Device Selector.

LMS Setup Center: Provides you a single location to configure and edit the server settings of all LMS applications, including CS, RME, DFM, and CM.

Support for MDF 1.12 (The MDF package 1.12 is a cumulative package that includes the new device types added after the release of CiscoWorks Common Services 3.0.3.)

In CiscoView 6.1.5, the Device Selector in chassis view and Mini-RMON are modified according to the new Device Selector.

Resource Manager Essentials 4.0.5

The following are the new features in RME 4.0.5:

Check Device Attributes is now a schedulable job. You can select the credentials that you want to verify, and trigger a job for these credentials.

Functional Homepage: A new functional homepage from where you can access all reports, carry out frequently used tasks, and view status of jobs. You can also view any alert messages.

Performance Tuning Tool (PTT): You can tune system parameters using PTT to improve RME performance.

Reports: Group-based selection of devices is enabled to generate reports.

Campus Manager 4.0.6

Campus Manager 4.0.6 has an improved Admin Dashboard that provides information on the status of Device Discovery, Data Collection, and User Tracking Acquisition.

Device Fault Manager 2.0.6

The following are the new features in DFM 2.0.6:

DFM Homepage—The DFM homepage is an easy way to access frequently used operations. A link to the homepage is available from the CiscoWorks Home Page.

Dynamic Notification Groups—You can set up dynamic notification groups in DFM. After a dynamic notification group is set up, any device that matches the criteria for that group is automatically added to the group.

Clearing Alerts and Events—An option is now available to manually clear alarms and events.

Notification Replay—You can set up DFM to send notifications if the application has to be restarted.

Maximum Trap Size—The maximum trap size can be set to any value between 250 and 1024.

Prerequisites for CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update

You have to install the LMS 2.5.1 applications to be updated before installing the CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update.

Note the following:

If you do not want to install one or more of the LMS 2.5.1 applications at present but plan to install them later, you must reinstall LMS 2.6 Update after you install the missing applications.

For example, if you install RME 4.0.3 after installing the LMS 2.6 Update, after installing RME 4.0.3, you must reinstall LMS 2.6 Update.

You cannot select individual application updates. This update automatically detects the installed LMS 2.5.1 applications and installs the required updates for that specific application.

If you have configured DCR Master-Slave setup, you must install this update in all of the CiscoWorks servers.

The Common Services Service Pack versions must be same in all of the DCR Master-Slave setup machines.

If you have configured Remote Syslog Collector (RSC) on a different server, you must upgrade RSC to RSC 4.0.5.

To upgrade RSC, you must install this update on the machine that contains RSC by following the same LMS 2.6 Update install instruction. See Installing CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update on Windows.

You must have a minimum free space of 350 MB on your hard disk to install this update.

If you do not have any of the applications at the LMS 2.5.1 level, the installation will terminate with an error message. For example, if you have RME 4.0 and try to install the LMS 2.6 Update, the installation will terminate.

Downloading CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update for Windows

You can download LMS 2.6 Update using either of these options:

Single Large File

Multiple Small Files

These files are available on the LMS Software Download page:

You must be a registered Cisco.com user to download this update.

Single Large File

A single LMS 2.6 Update file is available if you want to download one large file.

The Single Large File option has these files:

Multiple Small Files

The Single Large LMS 2.6 Update file is split into multiple small files if you want to download small files.

The Multiple Small Files option has these files:

Important Download Notes for LMS 2.6 Update

This section contains important information that you should read before you begin downloading:

The Single Large File and Multiple Small Files of this update are not visible through the CiscoWorks Software Updates page (Common Services > Software Center > Software Update).

You must not change the filename of the update files.

You must download all of the Multiple Small Files in the same location.

You can download Multiple Small Files in any order.

You must have minimum free space of 350 MB in your hard disk to download this update.

Installing CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update on Windows

To install this update, login as local administrator or user with administrator privileges on the system on which you installed the LMS 2.5.1 applications.

The LMS 2.6 Update is installed in the same directory as LMS 2.5.1. By default, it is System_Drive\Program Files\CSCOpx. Where System_Drive is the Windows operating system installed directory.

If you want to migrate (local) data from earlier versions of Common Services, RME, Campus Manager, and IPM onto a fresh (remote) installation of LMS 2.6, see the instructions provided in the Data Migration Guide for LAN Management Solution 2.6 at this URL:

If you want to migrate (local) DFM 1.2.x data onto a fresh (remote) installation of DFM 2.0.6, you must use the migration script provided in the DFM Upgrade Kit (for LMS 2.5.1) on Cisco.com. Log into Cisco.com and point your browser to http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-dfm. See the Readmes on the download site for installation instructions.

It takes approximately 1 hour to install the complete update for CS, CV, RME, CM, and DFM.

Installing the Single Large File Update

To install the Single Large File update:


Step 1 Navigate to the location on your system, where you downloaded the LMS 2.6 Update files.

Step 2 Unzip the lms26_update_win_k9.zip file.

The files are extracted under the lms26_update_win_k9 folder.

Step 3 Navigate to the lms26_update_win_k9 folder.

Step 4 Double click CiscoWorks_LMS_2.6_Update.exe.

The CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update window appears.

Step 5 Click Yes to continue.

The following message appears if Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) services are running:

The setup program has detected Windows Management Instrumentation

(WMI) services running.

This will lock some CiscoWorks processes and may abort installation abruptly.

To avoid this, installation will stop and start the WMI services.

Do you want to proceed?

Click Yes to proceed with this installation.

Click No to exit installation.

Step 6 Click Yes to continue.

The Welcome screen appears.

Step 7 Click Next to continue.

The Software License Agreement window appears. You must accept this agreement to install the CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update.

Step 8 Click Accept to continue.

The Install Updates window appears with the updates that will be installed.

Step 9 Click Next.

The installation program checks dependencies and system requirements. The System Requirements window appears.

The System Requirements window displays the system requirements, available space in the disk drive, and CPU speed in megahertz.

Step 10 Click Next.

The Summary window appears with the updates that will be installed and the settings for the installation.

Step 11 Click Next.

The following message appears:

Do you want to tune RME to better utilize the available system resources, and improve performance ?

Select Yes, to tune the performance parameters of RME towards the end of installation.

Select No, to continue running RME using the existing default performance parameters.

If you select No, you can tune the parameters later by running the rmeptt CLI utility.

See the "Performance Tuning Tool" section of RME User Guide for details.

The above message appears only if you have installed the update for RME, have a minimum of 4 GB RAM, and dual CPU.

Step 12 Click OK to accept the profile or Cancel if you do not want to apply the new product profile.

The Setup screen appears, displaying installation progress while files are copied and applications are configured.

Step 13 Click Next.

The following message appears only if you have installed the update for RME:

To ensure that you retain the latest device support for RME,

please install the latest Device Packages from CCO @

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-rme

Please refer to the Installation and Setup Guide for details.

Step 14 Click OK.

The following message appears only if you have installed the update for CM:

To ensure that you retain the latest device support for CM,

please install the latest Device Packages from CCO @

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-campus

Please refer to the Installation and Setup Guide for details.

Step 15 Click OK.

The following message appears only if you have installed the update for DFM:

To ensure that you have up-to-date device support,

install the latest Service Pack (SP) from Cisco.com, at

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-dfm.

For installation details, refer to the DFM Installation and Setup Guide.

Step 16 Click OK.

The following message appears:

If you plan to install any of the LMS 2.5.1 applications later,

you must reinstall CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update

after installing these applications.

Step 17 Click OK.


Note You need to restart your machine only if you have installed the update for DFM. The Restart dialog box appears after installation completes. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.


Step 18 Click Finish.


Installing the Multiple Small Files Update

To install the Multiple Small Files update:


Step 1 Navigate to the location on your system where you downloaded the LMS 2.6 Update files.

Step 2 Run the Windows batch file at the command prompt.

lms26_update_win_installer.bat

If you have not downloaded all the Multiple Small Files, an error message appears:

ERROR: You have not downloaded all the above files

ERROR: Please download all the above files and

ERROR: then run this script

Download all the Multiple Small Files. See the "Multiple Small Files" section for the list of files.

If you have downloaded all the Multiple Small Files, a message appears:

INFO: You have downloaded all the necessary files

INFO: creating the zip file from the downloaded files

A pop-up appears.

Click Yes to continue with the installation.

The following message appears if Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) services are running:

The setup program has detected Windows Management Instrumentation

(WMI) services running.

This will lock some CiscoWorks processes and may abort installation abruptly.

To avoid this, installation will stop and start the WMI services.

Do you want to proceed?

Click Yes to proceed with this installation.

Click No to exit installation.

Step 3 Click Yes to continue.

The update installation starts by displaying the Welcome screen.

Step 4 Click Next to continue.

The Software License Agreement window appears. You must accept this agreement to install the CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update.

Step 5 Click Accept to continue.

The Install Updates window appears with the updates that will be installed.

Step 6 Click Next.

The installation program checks dependencies and system requirements. The System Requirements window appears.

The System Requirements window displays the system requirements, available space in the disk drive, and CPU speed in megahertz.

Step 7 Click Next.

The Summary window appears with the updates that will be installed and the settings for the installation.

Step 8 Click Next.

The following message appears:

Step 11 Click OK.

The following message appears only if you have installed the update for DFM:

To ensure that you have up-to-date device support,

install the latest Service Pack (SP) from Cisco.com, at

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-dfm.

For installation details, refer to the DFM Installation and Setup Guide.

Step 12 Click OK.

The following message appears:

WARNING: If you plan to install any of the LMS 2.5.1 applications later,

WARNING: you must reinstall CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update

WARNING: after installing these applications.

Step 13 Click OK.


Note You need to restart your machine only if you have installed the update for DFM. The Restart dialog box appears after installation completes. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.


Step 14 Click Finish.


Verifying the LMS 2.6 Update Installation

After you install the CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update on Windows, you must verify the installation. To do this:


Step 1 Launch CiscoWorks.

http://server_name:port_number

where server_name is the name of the CiscoWorks Server and port_number is the TCP port used by the CiscoWorks Server.

In normal mode (HTTP), the default TCP port for CiscoWorks Server is 1741. When SSL is enabled (HTTPS), the default TCP port for CiscoWorks Server is 443.

Step 2 Select Common Services > Software Center > Software Update.

The Software Updates window appears.

The following entries appear in the Products Installed table for each application that you have installed:

Installing CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update for Missing LMS 2.5.1 Applications

If you install any of the LMS 2.5.1 applications after installing the LMS 2.6 Update, you must reinstall LMS 2.6 Update once again.

To install this update, login as local administrator or user with administrator privileges on the system on which you installed the LMS 2.5.1 applications.

Installing Single Large File for Missing LMS 2.5.1 Applications

To install the Single Large File update for missing LMS 2.5.1 applications:


Step 1 Navigate to the location on your system where you have downloaded the LMS 2.6 Update files.

Step 2 Unzip the lms26_update_win_k9.zip file.

The files are extracted under the lms26_update_win_k9 folder.

Step 3 Navigate to the lms26_update_win_k9 folder.

Step 4 Double click CiscoWorks_LMS_2.6_Update.exe.

The CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update window appears.

Step 5 Click Yes to continue.

The following message appears if Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) services are running:

Step 9 Select one of these options and click Next.

The installation program checks dependencies and system requirements. The System Requirements window appears.

The System Requirements window displays the system requirements, available space in the disk drive, and CPU speed in megahertz.

Step 10 Click Next.

The Summary window appears with the updates that will be installed and the settings for the installation.

Step 11 Click Next.

The following message appears:

Step 14 Click OK.

The following message appears only if you have installed the update for DFM:

WARNING: To ensure that you have up-to-date device support,

WARNING: install the latest Service Pack (SP) from Cisco.com, at

WARNING: http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-dfm.

WARNING: For installation details, refer to the DFM Installation and Setup Guide.

Step 15 Click OK.

The following message appears:

WARNING: If you plan to install any of the LMS 2.5.1 applications later,

WARNING: you must reinstall CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update

WARNING: after installing these applications.

Step 16 Click OK.

Installing Multiple Small Files for Missing LMS 2.5.1 Applications

To install the Multiple Small Files update for missing LMS 2.5.1 applications:


Step 1 Navigate to the location on your system where you downloaded the LMS 2.6 Update files.

Step 2 Run the Windows batch file at the command prompt.

lms26_update_win_installer.bat

If you have not downloaded all the Multiple Small Files, an error message appears:

ERROR: You have not downloaded all the above files

ERROR: Please download all the above files and

ERROR: then run this script

Download all the Multiple Small Files. See the "Multiple Small Files" section for the list of files.

If you have downloaded all the Multiple Small Files, a message appears:

INFO: You have downloaded all the necessary files

Install/reinstall all updates—To install the new updates and also reinstall the updates for the already updated applications.

Step 6 Select one of these options and click Next.

The installation program checks dependencies and system requirements. The System Requirements window appears.

The System Requirements window displays the system requirements, available space in the disk drive, and CPU speed in megahertz.

Step 7 Click Next.

The Summary window appears with the updates that will be installed and the settings for the installation.

Step 8 Click Next.

The following message appears:

Do you want to tune RME to better utilize the available system resources, and improve performance ?

Select Yes, to tune the performance parameters of RME towards the end of installation.

Select No, to continue running RME using the existing default performance parameters.

If you select No, you can tune the parameters later by running the rmeptt CLI utility.

See the "Performance Tuning Tool" section of RME User Guide for details.

The above message appears only if you have installed the update for RME, have a minimum of 4 GB RAM, and dual CPU.

Step 9 Click OK to accept the profile or Cancel if you do not want to apply the new product profile.

The Setup screen appears, displaying installation progress while files are copied and applications are configured.

The following message appears only if you have installed the update for RME:

WARNING: To ensure that you retain the latest device support for RME,

Step 11 Click OK.

The following message appears only if you have installed the update for DFM:

WARNING: http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-dfm.

WARNING: For installation details, refer to the DFM Installation and Setup Guide.

Step 12 Click OK.

The following message appears:

WARNING: If you plan to install any of the LMS 2.5.1 applications later,

WARNING: you must reinstall CiscoWorks LMS 2.6 Update

WARNING: after installing these applications.

Step 13 Click OK.


Note You need to restart your machine only if you have installed the update for DFM. The Restart dialog box appears after installation completes. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.


Step 14 Click Finish.

No device is listed under the Previous Selection group.

Workaround:

Cleared alerts are not removed in remote upgrade.

This occurs after backing up data from LMS 2.5.1 and restoring it on LMS 2.6.

This problem occurs only on Windows platform.

Active alerts in AAD do not show the events associated with them.

After upgrading to LMS 2.6 from LMS 2.5.1, no event information is displayed when you click any of the alert IDs in DFM.
