Introduction

This release note describes how to use the Recovery CD-ROM for the Cisco Broadband Access Center (BAC) Device Provisioning Engine-2115 (DPE-2115). It provides instructions on reinstalling or reimaging the original software image installed on the DPE-2115.

Note The DPE-2115 recovery image can be installed locally only. You cannot reinstall the original software over a network.

Using the DPE-2115 Recovery CD-ROM

The Recovery CD-ROM contains an image of the software that was originally installed on
the DPE-2115.

Caution When reimaging the DPE, all data stored on the DPE is lost. Once the reimaging process is complete, you must reconfigure the DPE-2115 with the configuration settings that you used on the previous image of the DPE.

To reimage your DPE-2115:

Step 1 Insert the BAC DPE-2115 Recovery CD-ROM into the DPE-2115 and close the CD-ROM drive.

Step 2 Power down the DPE by pressing and holding the power button for at least 5 seconds.

Step 3 Power up the DPE by pressing and holding the power button for at least 5 seconds. Powering up the DPE boots the CD and prompts you to begin.

Step 4 When the boot: prompt appears, enter:

install

The installation program begins to install the recovery image.

Step 5 The reimage process completes in approximately 2 minutes and the Recovery CD is ejected from the drive. Once the CD is ejected, the DPE automatically reboots.

Note During the reboot, an extensive array of technical data concerning the DPE and the programs running on it appears.

Step 6 Once the reboot is complete, a verification procedure runs. At the end of this procedure, this
prompt appears:

Test Completed ok. Enter a <CR> to power off.

Step 7 Press Return and wait for the "system halted" message to appear. This message indicates that the recovery process is complete.

Step 8 Power cycle the DPE as described in Step 2 of this procedure.
