SNMP Messages

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-CONFIGFAIL Failed to [chars] [chars]: [chars]

Explanation    Failed to perform the indicated configuration operation. This could be due to a low memory condition, an unsane configuration, or an internal software error. Failed in Host config: Received a good tuple for the snmp-server host CLI command, but could not configure it. This is likely due to lack of memory, which may be a transient condition, or may be due to SNMP supporting too many MIBS with large amounts of data. Try this command again after a few minutes. If it continues to fail, you may wish to undo some SNMP configurations and then retry the command.

Recommended Action    Examine the configuration and ensure that it is sane. Reduce other system activity to ease memory demands. If conditions warrant, upgrade to a larger memory configuration. *SH_CMD config*

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-DATASIZE Data size exceeded for [chars]. Length of data is [dec](max length is [dec])

Explanation    The maximum size of the data has been exceeded. This could be due to user configuration or internal error.

Recommended Action    Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log, call your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the gathered information.

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-ERR_DLL_LOAD Failed to load [chars]: [chars]

Recommended Action    Reduce other system activity to ease memory demands. If conditions warrant, upgrade to a larger memory configuration.

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-ERR_DLL_UNKNOWN Failed to map [chars] to an address: [chars]

Explanation    An attempt to map a MIB DLL symbolic name to an address failed. This MIB will be unloaded. This could be due to a corrupted MIB configuration file, a corrupted DLL, or a MIB configuration file that is out-of-sync with its corresponding MIB DLL.

Recommended Action    Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log, call your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the gathered information. Also provide a copy of the MIB DLL and its associated MIB configuration file.

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-ERR_EVM_EVENT_BLOCK Received error from event_wait: [chars]

Explanation    SNMP receives messages from an event manager. While trying to retrieve a message, an error occured, preventing successful receipt of the message.

Recommended Action    Check 'show context' command to see if any crash happened . If there is a crash, you may need to collect 'show process blocked' and 'run attach_process -p ' output. Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log, call your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the gathered information.

Error Message

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-ERR_SYSDB_BIND Failed to bind to SysDB for MIB notifications: [chars]

Explanation    SNMP binds to SysDB to receive notifications on the MIB's behalf. MIBs typically use these notifications as triggers to send out SNMP notifications (e.g. Traps). If SNMP cannot bind to SysDB, these SysDB notifications will not be received, and thus some SNMP notifications may never be generated.

Recommended Action    Check 'show context' command to see if any crash happened and sysdb is in a blocked state. Collect 'show process blocked' and 'run attach_process -p ' output. Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log, call your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the gathered information.

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-ERR_SYSDB_GET Unable to [chars]

Explanation    When a show snmp CLI is executed, SNMP agent displays this message when it is not able to retrieve the information. This is likely due to an internal software error.

%SNMP-SNMP-3-ERR_SYSDB_LIST Failed to [chars]

Explanation    An attempt to read from SysDB failed, the result being that whatever action was being performed cannot be completed by the SNMP agent.

Recommended Action    Check 'show context' command to see if any crash happened and sysdb is in a blocked state. If there is a crash, you may need to collect 'show process blocked' and 'run attach_process -p ' output. Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log, call your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the gathered information.

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-MIBCFGERR Error in getting MIB config data. [chars], [chars]

Explanation    Error in opening cfg directory : The MIB configuration files should be located in the directory '/ios/mib'. This directory could not be read, for some reason. General Error: A syntax error was encountered while parsing the given MIB configuration file. The MIB referred to by this configuration file will not be loaded. Failed to read MIB Cfg file: This could be due to a low memory condition. Missing config entries: One or more required entries are missing from the given MIB configuration file. The MIB referred to by this configuration file will not be loaded.

Recommended Action    Error in opening cfg directory : Ensure that the '/ios/mib' directory exists and contains one or more files with a '.mib' suffix. Failed to read MIB Cfg file: Ensure that the specified configuration file does exist on the system Missing config entries or General Error: Also provide the contents of the given configuration file. Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log, call your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the gathered information.

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-NOTIFOID_FAILED Failed to add sysObjectID to notification view for trapstring: [chars]

Explanation    Every trapstring supported by the 'snmp host' command corresponds to one or more notification OIDs. Each of these notifications will have zero or more varbinds that are carried as payload - each MIB tells snmpd about these varbinds so that a 'notification view' can be built for them. An extra varbind - sysObjectID - is required to be sent with all v2c notifications. This message indicates that an attempt to register this varbind failed. Sending v2c notifications for the trapstring specified in the error message may fail. You can workaround this by not specifying any trapstring in the 'snmp host' configuration - this will enable all notifications for that destination.

Recommended Action    Reduce other system activity to ease memory demands. If conditions warrant, upgrade to a larger memory configuration. *RECUR*

Error Message

%SNMP-SNMP-3-TARGETNONE Cannot find notification target [chars]

%SNMP-SNMP-4-VIEWOID_NOT_FOUND The command [chars] could not be applied at this time because the oid [chars] does not belong to a known MIB module.

Explanation    The snmpd process attempted to load the view OID, but the OID did not correspond to any known MIB module.

Recommended Action    It could be that either - 1. the OID is of the format 'foobar.1', but the MIB module containing the OID 'foobar' is not yet loaded on the router. If this is the case, when the MIB is loaded, this command will be automatically applied - there is no need to re-enter it. 2. The MIB module containing the OID 'foobar' is indeed loaded, but the MIB did not load a translation from 'foobar' to '1.3.6.1.x.y.z' (i.e. there is no translation from the oid-name to the dotted decimal representation for that name). In this case, you can enter the dotted decimal version instead of the name, i.e. 'snmp-server view 1.3.6.1.x.y.z included' - note that using the dotted decimal version of the name will ALWAYS succeed without a warning message - it is upto the user to make sure the OID entered is valid. 3. The OID 'foobar.1' contains a typo - please re-enter the command with the correct OID and it should succeed. If the above steps result in repeated warning messages or failure, please contact your customer support representative wit the error message.
