Table of Contents

Overview

Cisco protocol packs include new and improved protocol signatures for Cisco SCA BB. A typical signature update is a file containing new and updated signatures for better detection of new or updated popular peer-to-peer applications, gaming applications, and other interesting protocols. When loaded into the Cisco SCE platform, these signatures improve classification abilities of Cisco SCA BB with minimal or zero Cisco SCE platform service downtime.

The protocol pack files are available for Cisco partners and customers for download from the Software Download page of the Cisco website.

Cisco offers an e-mail notification service that notifies customers and partners each time a new protocol pack becomes available for download. To register for this service, please contact the relevant Cisco account team.

Installation

Installation of the Cisco SCA BB Protocol Pack #42 involves a replacement of the Cisco SCE platform application. This is done automatically as part of the SPQI installation using hitless upgrade mechanism. For more detailed information, see the Cisco Service Control Application for Broadband User Guide for your Cisco SCA BB release:

Known Limitations

The SCE2000 platform has memory limitations that cause problems during installation of the Protocol Pack. To avoid issues, actions in the following steps should be performed to release unused memory for the use of the Protocol Pack:

Step 1 debug db set ccConstDb.Gx.gxUsageMonitoringBufferSize 0 0

Step 2 debug db set ccConstDb.ChargingApplication.maxTotalBufferSize 0 0

Step 3 copy running-config startup-config

Step 4 Reload the box.

Note After performing the above steps, up to 5 MB of unused memory can be released.

New Zones

No new Zones added for this Protocol Pack release.

Usage Notes

  • Support for the application Bump is removed from this release, because the Bump service provider has shutdown the service.
  • For default block and allow Google Services, configure the following Google Zones through Cisco SCA BB:

64.18.0.0/20

64.233.160.0/19

66.102.0.0/20

66.249.0.0/20

72.14.192.0/15

74.125.0.0/16

173.194.0.0/16

207.126.144.0/20

209.83.126.0/17

216.219.32.0/19

  • To classify Google service such as Google maps and Google play, create zones using the URLs listed in the previous bullet point.
  • When the URLs listed in the previous bullet point are used in Cisco SCA BB, some of the Google Services are classified to Google Zone.
  • With the Content Filtering Enabled, when the incoming HTTP traffic matches both Content Filtering Category and HTTP Flavors configured in Cisco SCA BB, the GT_HTTP_PREFER_CONTENT_FILTERING_CATEGORY tunable is used to set the preference to Content Filtering Category. The tunable is used when the value of the GT_CLS_ENABLE_CONTENT_FILTERING_PERFORMANCE_ENHANCEMENT tunable is FALSE or when none of the HTTP Flavors matches the incoming HTTP traffic.

Resolved Caveats

CSCul96752

With the Content Filtering Enabled, when the incoming HTTP traffic matches both Content Filtering Category and HTTP Flavors configured in Cisco SCA BB, classification based on the flavor takes priority.

This issue is fixed. A new tunable GT_HTTP_PREFER_CONTENT_FILTERING_CATEGORY is added to set the preference to the Content Filtering Category.

Known Limitations

None.

Known Caveats

None.

Resolved Caveats

None.

Known Limitations

Carbonite

  • The login traffic is the same as the back-up traffic, especially in the mobile applications. Blocking the back-up blocks the login as well.
  • Fully encrypted traffic is not supported.

Cubby

  • The upload and download takes small encrypted flows that may fail the blocking action, especially on Android, hence blocking is done for the whole application.

JustCloud

  • Back-up and sharing are not supported. Configure the rate-limit for the JustCloud traffic to 2 kb/s as a workaround to block the JustCloud traffic.

MEGA

  • When the MEGA traffic is blocked, the handshake or certificate exchange for some flows may take more than the expected time and as a result, the configured aging time gets affected and the blocking fails. Configure the rate-limit for the MEGA traffic to 2 kb/s as a workaround to block the traffic.

Talkray

  • One or two packets of the Talkray chat are allowed even after blocking the Talkray traffic, because the classification happens in any of the three packets.
  • Flavor and Protocol have to be blocked to block the Talkray chat completely.

Tor and Orbot

  • Only blocking is supported.

Twitter

  • All Twitter webpages are blocked when blocking is configured, because the pattern for all web pages including the third party applications such as TweetDeck and TwitPic is twitter.com.

Known Caveats

  • CSCue75808

The hitless upgrade is not supported on Cisco SCE 2000.

  • CSCug29200

Large volume of BitTorrent traffic with large inter-packet gap affects the capacity of Cisco SCE devices.

Resolved Caveats

CSCtz96166

Viber is classified as Behavioral VoIP.

Known Limitations

  • Cisco SCE fails to block video streaming and radio streaming on RTMP flows of BBC iplayer. As a workaround, apply a rate limit of 5 kb/s on BBC iPlayer Streaming service to block the streaming service.
  • Opera Mobile traffic is wrongly classified to Generic HTTP. Opera Mobile browser behaves like a desktop browser when the User Agent, under the Advanced Setting in the browser, is set to desktop mode. While in the desktop mode, the browser renders webpages that are suitable for desktops. The traffic generated by the browser while in the desktop mode cannot be classified because the User Agent for Opera Mobile in desktop mode is same as the Opera desktop browser.
  • Increased CPU utilization on Cisco SCE devices when BBCiPlayer and WhatsApp protocols are supported.

Known Caveats

None.
