Solution

In most cases this error is caused by database conflicts. Complete these steps in order to resolve the issue:

  1. Go to START > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager.

  2. Right-click on SQL Server, and choose the Properties window.

  3. Check that these services are running as Local System:

    • MSSQLSERVER

    • SQLSERVERAGENT

Note: Make sure that the services SQLAGENT and MSSQLSERVER are set to run as local system.

  4. Run the setup.exe. If it fails, perform step 5.

  5. Open the Config Manager application from C or D:\Commserver. Double-click ConfigMgr.exe.

  6. You will get an initial dialog box that presents you with options to create the AMIS or bridge accounts which also includes an Advanced button. Choose the Advanced button.

  7. Click Yes.

  8. This will present a list of radio buttons. When one of these buttons is selected, it automatically picks scripts to run from the list of SQL scripts that the Unity setup process uses to construct the default database tables during install.

  9. Select the Reset All Default Configuration Settings While Preserving All Existing Objects radio button.

  10. Click Run.

Note: After running the script, you will be able to install Unity without any errors.

Problem: Unity Installation fails at Services Config Wizard

During an upgrade of Cisco Unity from a version of 4.x to a new version (8.x), the Context: m_strInstallerSubscriberObjectId.GetLength() <= 0 Error: 0x80004005: Unspecified Error error message is received while running the Service Configuration Wizard.

Solution

Complete these steps in order to resolve the issue:

  1. The UID of the installer account is made up of two parts:

    • The UID consists of the string Installer and then appended with the system id.

    • The system id can be found in the UnitySetupParameters table in a hex format in the row with the Name of @SystemId.

  2. In the subscribers table in SQL, replace the Installer's UID with a string that consists of the word Installer and the SystemId in hex, concatenated together.

Note: Now you will be able to run the Service Configuration Wizard without errors. This is documented in Bug ID CSCea17551 (registered customers only) .
