Problem

You are unable to add new subscribers to the Cisco Unity System. The "Domain Controller <NAME OF DC> not found. Add is temporarily not allowed." error message appears.

The error occurred after you upgraded a new server in the Domain as Domain Controller and decommissioned the old Domain Controller from the forest. The DC/GC Reconnect Settings tool, which appears under Administration Tools in the Cisco Unity Tools Depot, lists the decommissioned server(DC) as the Current Domain Controller. You need to redirect Cisco Unity to the newly upgraded Domain Controller.

Solution

In Cisco Unity 4.0(4) and later, you no longer need to manually change the domain controller (DC) or global catalog server (GC) that Cisco Unity monitors for directory updates. If a DC or GC stops functioning, the Cisco Unity DC/GC Reconnect feature automatically finds another server and resynchronizes the MSDE 2000 or SQL Server 2000 database on the Cisco Unity server with the directory on the new DC or GC. Complete these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. On the Cisco Unity server for which you want to change a domain controller, double-click the Cisco Unity Tools Depot icon on the desktop.

  2. In the left pane of Cisco Unity Tools Depot, expand Administration Tools.

  3. Double-click DC/GC Reconnect Settings Tool and complete these steps:

    1. Mark the Enable automatic reconnect functionality for this domain checkbox.

    2. Unmark the Enable automatic server search functionality on reconnects for this domain checkbox.

    3. This action gives you the ability to place a server manually. Enter the name of Primary Domain Controller in the Manually primary domain controller field.

    4. Click on Test button in order to verify if Cisco Unity can connect to the newly entered Domain Controller.

  4. Click on Force Reconnect button at the top of the window.

Note: After you complete the Force Reconnect, the Current Domain Controller is switched to the newly upgraded Domain Controller (newdc.com) and you are able to add new subscribers.
