This document provides information on how to troubleshoot some of the
common licensing issues that occur in Cisco Unity Connection 7.x/8.x.
There are no specific requirements for this document.

a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you
understand the potential impact of any command.

When trying to import users to Cisco Unity Connection, the

violation error message is received.
This error message is related to the license issue. In order to
resolve this issue, you need to make sure that the number of users imported has
not exceeded the limit that is mentioned in the license report. Complete these
steps in order to ensure this:
You can check the license report via Cisco Unity Connection
Administration > System Settings >
Each license file is registered to the MAC address of the network
interface card (NIC) on the Cisco Unity Connection server. The license file
provided is based on the entitlements associated with your Cisco sales

In your license report , there is a field called
LicSubscribersMax which contains the total
number of subscribers you can have in your system. If the number of users you
are going to import exceeds the number in the
LicSubscribersMax field, you will receive a
license violation error message. As per this
example report, if the number of users you are trying to import exceeds 50,
then you will receive a license violation error
The solution for this is to either upgrade the license or make sure
that the number of users imported is less than the maximum limit mentioned in
the Cisco Unity Connection license report.
After you upgrade to Cisco Unity Connection 7.x, this error message
appears when you attempt to update the new license file:
A license tag in a license file was found to be invalid. Tag
LicSubscribersMax in file XYZ.lic has a missing orinvalid host id.
This tag will be ignored, but the remainder of the license file will be processed.
If you believe the tag in this file should be valid, please contact support personnel.
As a solution, check these issues:
Make sure that you have entered the correct License
MAC address in order to obtain the license key. If not, you need to
run the show status CLI command and obtain the
License MAC value, then request a new license based on this

For a Cisco Unified messaging account, this status message is
"A license violation has occurred:you have configured this Connection user for single inbox,
but you have assigned the user to a class of service in which single inbox is not enabled.
If you do not either enable single inbox for the class of service or reassign the user
to a class of service in which single inbox is enabled, Connection will stop functioning.
For more information, see the Licenses page."
On System Settings licenses, this message is displayed:
"A license violation related to the LicIMAPSubscribersMax license
tag has occurred. You have configured Connection users for single inbox and assigned them to a class of service
in which single inbox is not enabled. Assign the users to a class of service in which single inbox is enabled,
or Connection will stop functioning in [number of] days. You can restore functionality by restarting the server,
but Connection will stop functioning again every 24 hours until the license violation is resolved."
The Cisco Unity Connection stopped operations due to a license
violation. This occurs because single inbox is enabled for the users account,
but single inbox is not on the class of service of the user. This can also
occur to the subscribers with the single inbox feature, and the connection IMAP
feature is not enabled in each and every class of service.
In order to resolve this issue:
Enable single inbox on the class of service of the user, or disable
single inbox on the Cisco Unified messaging account.
Enable IMAP functionality in every class of service, then reboot the

There are error messages that state there is a licensing
Complete these steps in order to resolve this issue:
Delete the extra user, which removes the license

system default language..... If you want to use a language that is not in the
list, install that language, and then restart Cisco Unity

include the LicRegionIsUnrestricted tag.
If you want to use United States English for the Cisco Unity Connection
conversation or you want users to be able to create personal call transfer
rules, the Connection license must include the
LicRegionIsUnrestricted license tag. Refer to

how to determine whether the tag is present or not.

When you attempt to upload a license on Cisco Unity Connection, this
error message is received:
Error Encountered : Error : Install script of option /common/download//UC-locale-es_ES-184.108.40.206-323.cop failed.
In order to resolve this issue, you need to stop these services on
Cisco Unity Connection before you upload the UC Locale:
With Cisco Unity Connection 7.1, when you attempt to install a license
file, this error message is received:
A license file or license directory was found to be invalid and will
not be installed. Ignoring the license file: CXNxxxxxxx.lic.

Cisco Unity Connection 8 displays this error after the license files
There was an unexpected failure during license reevaluation. Please
restart your system or contact support personnel if this failure continues
The workaround is to restart the License Service on Publisher server
after uploading the license.
