Introduction

The Commonwealth Games are coming to Melbourne in 2006. The times for daylight savings in many states in Australia have been altered. This document describes the impact of the change in daylight savings time on Voice products, and provides a workaround.

In Australia, the end of the daylight savings time has been moved from last week of March to first week of April. The implication of this change is that instead of ending on Sunday, the 26^th of March 2006 at 3:00AM, daylight savings time will end on Sunday, the 2^nd of April 2006 3:00AM. This change applies only for the year 2006. The daylight savings time affects these states in Australia:

Victoria
Tasmania
South Australia
New South Wales
Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

Background Information

Sun Microsystems has released a patch for the Solaris 8 OS in order to avoid any problems that can occur due to the change in daylight savings time. Cisco recommends that you upgrade your OS versions with this patch. Refer to the Solution section for instructions on how to download and apply the patch.

The daylight savings time change is sure to affect all PGW 2200 applications that use the system time resources. Cisco highly recommends that you install the relevant OS patch on all your application servers in order to minimize any impact of this event.

Problem

The Voice products listed in the Components Used section must adjust the system times in order to account for changes in the local time. If you do not adjust the system time, the system will run one hour ahead of the correct time between 26^th March and 2^nd April, 2006. The problems of incorrect system time include wrong time stamps in log files, reports and display functions, and problems in client-server synchronization.

Solution

Use this solution to solve the problem.

Install the CSCOh015 patch. Complete these steps:

Go to the Software Download (registered customers only) page on Cisco.com.
Scroll down to the Cisco PGW 2200 Node Components Cisco Media Gateway Controller section.
Click the link for the version you use. For example, version 9.2(2), 9.3(2), 9.4(1), 9.5(2), or 9.6(1).
Click the Download MGC Node Solaris 8 Packages link.
Click the CSCOh015 patch to download and apply the patch.
