Introduction

This document describes a problem encountered when you attempt to make a video call to another Jabber user on a similar platform and also provides a solution. The solution is especially relevant if the video call attempts are successful between two Jabber users with different platforms.

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Problem

When you attempt to make a video call to another client with a similar Jabber platform (both you and the recipient use Jabber for iPad, for example), the attempt fails. However, the video calls work fine when you attempt to make a video call to a Jabber user with a different platform (you use Jabber for iPad and the recipient uses Jabber for Windows or Jabber for MAC, for example).

Solution

Note: The workaround given is feasible if the issue is isolated to Wireless Connection only.

You must ensure that the peer-to-peer connectivity setting is enabled on the Wireless LAN (WLAN) Controller. This allows features to function properly between two similar Jabber platforms. For Jabber Mobile clients, there is no way to test the functionality on a wired connection. Therefore, if you have Jabber desktop clients deployed, it is a good idea to test video calls between them as well.
