Introduction

This procedure explains how to set the line direction (west to east, and east to west) of an ONS1580x system on all types of transponders. You must set the right line direction on transponders so that the supervision system can work properly.

Note: This procedure does not affect traffic.

Components Used

The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:

  • Cisco Photonics Tool Kit (CPTK) software

  • A PC that runs Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows 2000

Based on how you plan to establish the connection with the ONS1580x, you require the right cable. You can establish the connection with:

  • Ethernet

  • Point to Point Protocol (PPP)

For more information, refer to the CPTK Software Administration Manual. You must be familiar with CPTK and understand how to establish connection with network element.

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

In this section, you are presented with the information to configure the features described in this document.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Complete these steps in order to set the line direction:

  1. Connect to the ONS 1580x system as described in the CPTK manual. The Network Element Inventory Screen displays.

  2. Click in the column to the left of a module name in order to select a transponder module. Check marks appear beside selected modules. You can change the line direction of multiple modules simultaneously.

  3. Choose Action > Line Direction. A submenu displays:

  4. Choose East to West or West to East from the Line Direction submenu. A confirmation window displays.

  5. Click OK. After the NE refreshes, the line direction for the selected modules is changed.
