Cards shipped with Modules manufactured from November 20, 2012 to April 30, 2013 are affected. 

Problem Description

A limited number of 15454-OPT-AMP-C units might generate an Equipment (EQPT) FAIL alarm due to a lack of communication with the Optical Module sometime after they are installed.

Background

Cards that were built between November 20, 2012 and April 30, 2013 might be equipped with Optical Modules that can stop the communication towards the main card. Cards potentially affected by the problem are referenced in the How to Identify Hardware Levels section of this field notice.

Problem Symptoms

The unit raises the EQPT FAIL alarm after it is inserted into the chassis.

Workaround/Solution

Cards that raise the EQPT FAIL alarm and are referenced in the How to Identify Hardware Levels section of this field notice can be recovered. Contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) or the Advance Services Teams for details.

How To Identify Hardware Levels

Cards that are affected are listed in the Serial Number Validation Tool. Enter the Serial Number of the unit in order to check if it is impacted by the problem.

The Serial Number of the AMP-C unit is available in the Inventory Tab of the Cisco Transport Controller (CTC).
