Problem Description

Inter VSAN Routing (IVR) and Fiber Channel Redirect (FCR) applications like Data Mobility Manager (DMM), Storage Media Encryption (SME) and I/O Acceleration (IOA) may not work with Specific MDS Gen 3 Linecards/Modules, MDS9222i Switches, and MDS 18/4 cards running colder software. The problem occurs in both IVR1 (non-NAT) and IVR2 (NAT) configurations.

Background

Due to a change in parts, Cisco used a new component that behaved differently than the original component. This issue was exposed in early 2012 when customers running the affected boards experienced issues. This problem can be resolved by running a newer version of software.

This issue impacts the following hardware:

Part ID Description Affected Version/Part #
DS-X9224-96K9 24-Port 8-Gbps Fibre Channel Switching Module ver 1.5
DS-X9248-96K9 48-Port 8-Gbps Fibre Channel Switching Module ver 1.5
DS-X9248-48K9 4/44-Port Host Optimized 8G FC Module ver 1.5
DS-X9304-18K9 MDS 9000 18-port FC and 4-port GE Module 73-14372-01
DS-C9222I-K9 MDS 9222i 18-port FC, 4-port GE Modular Switch 73-14373-01

All hardware versions not listed here are not affected.

The DS-X9224 and DS-X9248 are considered 3rd generation linecards.

Problem Symptoms

Traffic will not work for IVR. Redirect will not happen to Fiber Channel Redirect (FCR) applications such as Data Mobility Manager (DMM), Storage Media Encryption (SME) and I/O Acceleration (IOA). Flow stats and span functionality may not work for the affected linecards.

Workaround/Solution

Customers running the affected hardware must upgrade to software containing the fix or later.
