Problem Description

When Performance Polling is enabled on CUOM 2.0.1 to collect performance data on CUCM 5.X or 6.X versions, it results in AXL SOAP queries being sent to CUCM subscriber nodes and this might cause an impact on CUCM subscriber call processing.

This problem is observed on 4.x versions where IIS is not disabled.

Background

CUOM 2.0.1 uses AXL SOAP to retrieve performance statistics on CUCM clusters. CUOM 2.0.1 makes AXL SOAP queries to collect cluster-wide performance metrics to any CUCM subscriber in a cluster, especially in the case of CUCM 5.X and CUCM 6.X. Servicing these AXL SOAP queries places a load on the CUCM subscribers and this may impact the Call Processing on the CUCM subscribers. This has been noticed in clusters with a large number of gateways or locations defined and when CUOM tries to collect performance statistics as well as location bandwidth data on these gateways. This impact is seen primarily when CUOM performance monitoring is enabled on CUCM publishers and subscribers.

Problem Symptoms

  1. SOAP polling is occurring on subscriber node even though the publisher node is online.

  2. Call processing nodes, if taxed, will impact active calls.

Workaround/Solution

Disable Performance Polling for CUCM 5.X and 6.X versions in CUOM 2.0.1.

For CUCM 4.x versions, enable IIS only on publisher.

A patch is under development to address this issue and enable performance polling. The patch will be posted on the Cisco Unified Operations Manager 2.0.1 Software Downloads (registered customers only) page. Check this location to download the patch.
