Intel has issued a new stepping of the processor contained in the referenced servers. See Product Change Notification PCN 107467-00. The CPU will be shipping from the factory no later than October 31, 2007.Until that time, installation of the referenced OS versions will result in the referenced warning message during the installation process.

Problem Symptoms

During the installation of OS 2000.4.4, 2000.4.4a, 2000.4.5, 2000.4.5a, 2000.4.5b, 2003.1.1, 2003.1.2, or 2003.1.2a, the following warning message will be displayed for those servers equipped with G0 step of the Woodcrest processor and the supporting System BIOS.

Versions 2000.4.4, 2000.4.4a, and 2003.1.1 will display the following message:

The current version of the BIOS is 1.06
The BIOS version tested on this system is 1.03
The BIOS will be automatically adjusted as part of this installation.
Press 'OK' to continue or 'Cancel' to abort the installation.

Versions 2000.4.5, 2000.4.5a, 2000.4.5b, and 2003.1.2 will display the following message:

The BIOS version detected is different than the expected version of 1.05
Actual detected version: 1.06
Press 'OK' to continue or 'Cancel' to abort the installation.

Each of these error messages will cause the installation process to fail.

Workaround/Solution

Existing users with existing servers are encouraged to upgrade to the following SR packages that contain the System BIOS for the G0 CPU: Click here ( registered customers only) to get the upgrade.

2000.4.4aSR10 (or higher)

2000.4.5bSR3 (or higher)

2003.1.1SR8 (or higher)

2003.1.2aSR3 (or higher)

Users attempting to install OS 2000.4.4, 2000.4.4a, or 2003.1.1 user should select 'Cancel' to abort the installation and utilize a later version of the OS installation (for example, 2000.4.5b or 2003.1.2a).

Users attempting to install OS 2000.4.5, 2000.4.5a, 2000.4.5b, 2003.1.2, or 2003.1.2a should select 'OK' to continue with the installation of the referenced OS version. Cisco has successfully tested both the previous (B2) and later (G0) versions of the CPU with the 1.06 version of the System BIOS.

Note:

Should any user of these OS versions receive the following message on a reboot during the POST:

The BIOS does not support the current stepping of Processor P0X,

the user should initiate the documented BIOS upgrade procedure for IBM x3650, MCS-7835-I2 and MCS-7845-I2 servers available on the Unified Communications Manager Utilities Software Download Page ( registered customers only) .
