CFS-9-X-ENT-STE - Cisco Fax Server 9.0

Problem Description

Due to Daylight Saving Time (DST) a time change problem may affect customers who have installed Cisco Fax Server (RightFax) 9.0 SP2 HF3. This issue does not exist in RightFax 9.0 SP2 HF2 or any previous version of RightFax.

Background

This problem affects only faxes sent or received during the following time window:

Table 1 Summary of changes to Daylight Savings Time

Event

Prior to 2007

Year 2007 and After

Start

First Sunday in April

Second Sunday in March

End

Last Sunday in October

First Sunday in November

For example, in New York State, the offset time from GMT is 5 hours. Assuming that the time of the change is 2:00 A.M., the problem will start at 2:00 A.M. and will stop at 7:00 A.M. Faxes that are in process may still be delayed.

Every country or locale that observes some form of daylight saving time (DST) is affected by the calculation changes. It is not unique to Canada and the United States and is not caused by the Microsoft critical update for DST.

Problem Symptoms

Faxes sent at the time of the change and later are delayed and may take several hours to process.

Faxes sent or received at the time of the change and later are stamped 1 hour later than the operating system time.

RightFax defect exists, as described above.

Apply RightFax patch RF90SP2HF3DST.zip

*To apply the attached patch to a RightFax 9.0 system, you must have RightFax 9.0 SP2 HF3 installed.

The patch may be obtained by going to the following Captaris Support web page: RightFax Fixes for Daylight Saving Time (DST) / Time Calculation. At the bottom of this web page, under the "File Attachment" heading, is a link to the RF90SP2HF3DST.zip file.

Cisco recommends that customers stay current on critical updates or patches from Captaris and from Microsoft. This would include the most recent update issued by Microsoft to support daylight saving time. The Captaris fixes do not require the Microsoft DST date fix, and the defects are not caused by the Microsoft critical update for DST.

Information regarding RightFax 9.0 and 9.3 may be obtained from Captaris' website: RightFax Fixes for Daylight Saving Time (DST) / Time Calculation.
